Big moment - big goal! Robin van Persie strikes the penalty firmly into the corner. You don't save those and David Moyes loves it. Absolutely loves it.

"Olympiakos look vulnerable at the back but how vital will Hernan Perez's miss prove to be for the Greeks? United fans are really making themselves heard and the recalled Ryan Giggs is making his presence felt."

Hulk was quick to get the ball out of the net and restart play, but the Russian side need to score two more due to Dortmund bagging four away goals.

Dan Hedley: , externalManchester United need to calm down with all these diving challenges. There's a difference between measured determination and idiocy.

Ben Clayton: , externalWhy can't we play with this much urgency every game?

Phil Bell:, external How on earth did these two teams reach this stage?

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:03 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

Ryan Giggs drifts in a cross for Wayne Rooney, his header is not the best but keeper Roberto gets it all wrong, diving over the ball as it hits the post. There are goals in this one...

  8. GOALpublished at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

What a goal this is! Good grief Hulk gets hold of this shot, cutting in from the right win before belting in a left-footer from 25 yards, all sorts of movement on the ball as it arcs away from the dive of Roman Weidenfeller and flies into the top corner.

  9. CLOSE!published at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

See you later Phil Jones! Joel Campbell leaves him for dead with a stepover and pulls the ball back for Hernan Perez - who should score but fires over the bar.

That was a huge moment. If that goes in - United need four.

Antonio Valencia could well go into the book too - he dives in to Delvin N'Dinga in midfield and doesn't get the ball. The ref takes pity on him though and he gets away with a warning. United pressing well in midfield.

"Robin van Persie was unlucky. He got in front of the central defender and put him off but then it bounced kindly to goalkeeper Roberto."

Emmet Byrne: , externalAntonia Valencia looks like he's gone a round with Apollo Creed. Fitting, against a Greek team

It's a high-tempo opening 10 minutes. Wayne Rooney pulls out wide and puts in a dangerous low cross but Robin van Persie can't get there. Olympiakos have had 55% possession so far.

The Lion:, external This is better already by Manchester United, pushing high up the pitch.

Matty Aylott:, external Olympiakos are all over the place, surely United can score three against this lot?

Adam Bryne:, external Old Trafford crowd sounds frantic and the players must feel that already. One hundred miles an hour football. Will they run out of steam?

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

Another booking for Olympiakos! Alejandro Dominguez skids into Antonio Valencia and is rightly booked. Valencia won't have seen him coming due to that massive swelling over his left eye.

Referee Bjorn Kuipers seems happy to let Valencia play on - he'd be stopping the fight if they were in a ring. Michael Carrick is then booked.

Steady start in Germany, no real chances to speak of yet.

  17. Postpublished at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

Antonio Valencia needs a corner man, not a physio. Ouch doesn't really cover it, he has a massive shiner after a clash of heads and Manchester United may have to make an early change. I'm not sure he can even see out of his eye.

Jon, Manchester: United fans calling for David Moyes' head even before the game show a lack of understanding. Some United fans were born into a successful team but before and during Ferguson they had barren years. Just because it's Manchester United does not guarantee success, which some United fans think is their right. Give him time.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2014

Good pass forward from Ryan Giggs sends Danny Welbeck away, but his heels are clipped by Kostas Manolas - who is booked.

He will miss the quarter-final first leg - if the Greeks get there of course...

"I would just be worried how often Alejandro Domínguez has got the ball and then is able to turn and play - he is their playmaker."
