Chelsea striker Demba Ba, speaking to ITV: "It all happened so quick. I saw the ball and it was in the goal. I just do what I have to do when I get chances. I didn't have chances this season but tonight I took it."

Julian Laurens, French football journalist speaking to BBC Radio 5 live following Chelsea's win over PSG: "Cavani had the best chance of the night and when you pay 64 million euros for a player like him you expect him to score the goals to put you through to the semi-finals. Chelsea probably deserve to go through on the balance of the two legs but this will be a big disappointment for PSG.

"It's heart-breaking. If they had gone through tonight it would have reflected well on the project and the French league, they haven't done that. Tonight was their night and this year was their year for them to go further than they did last year and perhaps reach the final.

"It's a learning curve and that project is still very young and you still have the start of what could be a long project, surely there are a lot of positives to take over the two legs and they will come back stronger next season."

"Cech, Terry, Luiz, Lampard ran for each other all night long. No matter how poorly you play you will always get chances no matter how good the team are that are playing. PSG are very direct but never really fashioned too many chances tonight, in the end it could have been more comfortable for Chelsea.

"For a lot of games at Stamford Bridge the atmosphere hasn't been great - tonight it has been fantastic."

  4. Championship updatepublished at 21:47 British Summer Time 8 April 2014

Second-placed Burnley have taken a huge step towards the Premier League this evening, winning 1-0 at Barnsley thanks to Ashley Barnes's seventh-minute goal. The Clarets could seal promotion this Saturday against Middlesbrough - although Derby can still have a say in that.

QPR, who started the evening in third, lost 2-0 at Blackburn, and will drop a place if Derby - currently 3-1 up at Blackpool - get a win in the evening's only 20:00 BST kick-off.

At the foot of the table, Charlton keep themselves out of the relegation zone with a vital 3-2 win over bottom club Yeovil. Millwall remain in the drop zone despite winning 1-0 at fifth-placed Wigan.

Elsewhere, Brighton won 4-1 at promoted leaders Leicester, Nottingham Forest fought back to draw 3-3 with Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough have beaten Birmingham 3-1 despite having two men sent off. There are victories too for Bournemouth, Ipswich, Bolton and Watford.

"They didn't panic tonight, they just kept playing and sensed there was a weakness with PSG. For the last 20 minutes PSG couldn't get out of their own half and Demba Ba has gambled to get a goal out of absolutely nothing, all the players have put 10 out of 10 in for that showing."

"Mourinho told them to keep the ball, to keep it simple and not give away stupid free kicks and that made the difference tonight. PSG aren't used to an atmosphere like that and aren't used to the constant pressure put on them by Chelsea tonight."

Plenty of antics on the touchline from Jose Mourinho as he gets in the way of the ball when it goes out of play then gees up the crowd.

  16. Championship updatepublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 8 April 2014

The award for performance of the night in the Championship has to go to Brighton, who are 4-0 up at leaders Leicester, with Leonardo Ulloa scoring twice after first-half goals from Stephen Ward and Jesse Lingard.

Second-placed Burnley are grinding their way towards three very useful points at Barnsley, retaining the 1-0 lead given to them by Ashley Barnes in the seventh minute.

Bottom club Yeovil have pulled a goal back at relegation rivals Charlton thanks to Kieffer Moore, but still trail 3-2. Elsewhere, Blackburn, Derby, Bournemouth, Bolton, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford and Millwall all lead - as do Middlesbrough, but their 2-1 advantage at home to Birmingham is looking fragile after the sending off of Kenneth Omeruo.

"Well done Demba Ba, well done Chelsea and well done Mourinho they've really gambled on this one.

"It was a scruffy ball that Ba just hooked in to the top corner, Chelsea have penned PSG in and forced them to sit deep all half and in the end it's paid off. That miss from Cavani for PSG was absolutely massive."

Unbelievable! The ball is pumped into the box, the ball is cleared and a deflected shot from the edge of the box is turned in from four yards out by Demba Ba. Cue Jose Mourinho running the length of the touchline to tell his three strikers now on the pitch to revert to defensive duties. Chelsea going through. As it stands.
