Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers told Sky Sports before kick-off: "It's a very difficult league to get results in. We're concentrating on our job to day.

"If you look at their midfield it's a similar to ours in the way they set up. We've got Lucas on the right of a diamond, and Joe on the left. They are both good players tactically.

"We will look to get five bodies in there. Hopefully that will give us a numerical advantage on the inside. We won't change anything.

"For us it's a continuation of what we're doing. We'll continue to attack and balance our gamer defensively."

Norwich manager Neil Adams: "We've got to win points. I don't think you can rely on other people and, if you are, you are playing a dangerous game. First and foremost, we have to make sure we are at it.

"It (Liverpool's position) brings its own pressure as they are expected to win the game whereas a few weeks ago they might have hoped to win it."

"I just don't see anybody stopping Liverpool's title charge now. They are playing outstanding football, and blowing teams away so early on in games. No matter who the opposition are, they have all cracked.

"It is hard to see Norwich keeping this Liverpool side out for long because Brendan Rodgers' side are sweeping all before them."

Tom Wylie:, external It wasn't really a rally cry, but Jose Mourinho's "I am the special one" has to be the most famous football soundbite in recent years.

Nic Billot:, external Sir Alex Ferguson's "squeaky-bum time" has to be right up there. And as a Liverpool fan, I'm certainly feeling it right now!

John Delaney:, external I seem to remember Steve McClaren using "We go again!" on more than one occasion during his time as England manager. Oh dear.

The league title might not be the only silverware heading to Anfield this season, because Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge have all been nominated for the Professional Footballers' Association's player of the year award. Sturridge has also been nominated for the young player award, along with team-mate Raheem Sterling. Will the Reds sweep the board?

Hands up who genuinely thought Liverpool would win the title at the start of the season. I don't believe you. Even the club's principal owner John W Henry admits Brendan Rodgers' side are ahead of schedule.

"We had our sights set on a top-four finish because we're building," Henry told BBC Sport. "It's a challenge with the way the league is structured, so if we were fortunate enough to win this year, I would say we're ahead of schedule."

Mike in Liverpool: If Liverpool don't win the league, 'we go again' will be as boss a catchphrase as Kevin Keegan's "I'd LOVE it if we beat them" in our Everton-supporting house.

Tom in Sheffield: The "your boys took one hell of a beating" speech after the 1981 match between Norway and England is definitely one of the more emotional ones.

Tom in Leeds: Nothing will surely beat Delia Smith's famous "let's be having you" rallying cry

"You just hang on to that one small glimmer of hope that one day you can have one small chance, one final go before you hang your boots up. And it's here."

That is Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard talking in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, external on his side's league title chances.

He goes on to add: "The challenge for me, which just as important as being on the pitch now, is can I control myself and can I get on with my life for the next four weeks. Can I control it."

So what did yesterday's results mean for the Premier League table? Well, if they beat Norwich this afternoon, Liverpool can go five points clear of second-placed Chelsea at the top of the league with third-placed Manchester City not playing until Monday.

At the bottom, Sunderland have given themselves a great chance of hauling themselves out of trouble and Norwich are now just two points above the trap-door.

It's fair to say Chelsea were rattled by that defeat at Sunderland. Assistant coach Rui Faria had to be dragged away from referee Mike Dean following the award of the Black Cats' decisive penalty and, following the match, Jose Mourinho refused to take questions from the press. Instead, he "congratulated" Dean for his "unbelievable" performance.

R Kipling in Wirral: If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or listening to Mourinho, don't listen to Mourinho, If you can fill the unforgiving football match, with 90 minutes worth of distance run, then yours is this Premier League and universal acclaim, and, which is more, you shall become Legends, my Liverpool.

  13. Did it really happen?published at 11:16 British Summer Time 20 April 2014

Liverpool supporters must have bounced down to Norwich this morning, despite the early wake-up call. That's because they could hardly have believed their luck when Sunderland beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night.

Not only did the Black Cats put an almighty dent in the Blues' title charge, but they also inflicted Jose Mourinho's first home Premier League defeat in 78 games as Chelsea manager. And the winner was scored by on-loan Liverpool striker Fabio Borini. What are the chances of Victor Moses stepping off the bench and scoring the winner this afternoon?
