"The big difference between the two sides for me is in the two left back areas - we've seen Leighton Baines exposed but Giorgio Chiellini has not been exposed once by England. Nobody has got the ball and run at him, nobody has tried to expose him."

    Former England defender Phil Neville

"At times our attacking play has been really exciting. It's that final pass we've not quite done but we've created really good opportunities.

"When you're 2-1 down with five minutes to go that's when your spirit comes through and this is a big test for this team."

Steven Gerrard puts it over the top from 20 yards. England have gone flat now as fatigue sets in. It looks like a creditable but ultimately fruitless display. How very British.

"A moment ago it just looked like Steven Gerrard had a problem in the middle of the pitch - he didn't move for about 30 or 40 seconds. Daniel Sturridge also went down with cramp and maybe that has just given way. That is a blow for England.

"Wayne Rooney slipped when taking that corner in the same way David Beckham did taking that penalty all those years ago. There really wasn't anything he could do, the turf just came out from beneath him. But overall the quality of delivery from set-pieces by England has been poor."

    Former England defender Phil Neville

"I'm amazed they're taking Candreva off. He's made it impossible for Leighton Baines to mark him tight.

"Daniel Sturridge is still suffering from the challenge from behind from Giorgio Chiellini and it was the kind of tackle we're trying to outlaw from the game. Leighton Baines will enjoy having Adam Lallana in there because it should allow him to get forward a bit more."

The impetus has just gone out of the game and it's looking like Mario Balotelli will be the match-winner.
