Marc: On the list, Marquez has stood out the most for me. Honourable mention to 38 year old Mario Yepes. Have to be the most experienced defenders there and they've still got it based on their performances so far.

While your voting for your centre-backs, mull over some of these statistics.

Veteran Rafael Marquez has netted a goal for Mexico in each of the last three World Cups.

Matt D: Very surprised to hear that Chiellini finds the ban "excessive". Suarez has now bitten on 3 occasions, add that to racism against Evra and punching Gonzalo Jara and it becomes clear why he should be out of the game for much, much longer.

  4. Nigeria boycott trainingpublished at 12:06 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

The Nigeria squad have missed a scheduled training session in a row over money.

BBC Sport understands the players believe they are each $15,000 short of the bonus they were expecting for reaching the last 16 in Brazil.

They refused to train in Campinas on Thursday and officials later confirmed the session had been cancelled.

Nigeria are scheduled to play France in the knockout stages on Monday having finished as runners-up in Group F.

Tim: Absolutely disgraceful response from Maradona, the Uruguay manager, their FA and their captain. Some actions - like biting another human being for the THIRD time - are just indefensible. Has Suarez even apologised to Chiellini yet? Should have been banned from all forms of the game for 12 months.

The results are in. Your player to fill the right-back slot is Ivory Coast's Serge Aurier. He was picked as a BBC Sport daily guide 'One To Watch'. You watched him and you like him. It was close, though - he beat Johnson by 56 votes.

Liverpool are seeking legal advice following Fifa's decision to ban Luis Suarez from all football for four months, but the Anfield club are determined not to rush their next move.

Liverpool remain unsure whether Suarez will be allowed to train during his ban and while legal action is an option, the club are determined to take a calm approach to this latest controversy.

Suarez is due to earn about £3m from Liverpool during the time he is unable to play.

The striker's future remains unclear but it is understood that Liverpool have no intention of off-loading their star striker on the cheap this summer. Liverpool will not, however, cash in on one of the world's best strikers for the sake of it - the owners will do what they feel is right for the club. It may take an offer of about £80m to persuade them to sell.

Chiellini, who was involved in the incident with Suarez during the 1-0 win that sent Uruguay through to the last 16 and put Italy out, has released a statement on his website., external

"Now inside me there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done," he said.

"There only remain the anger and the disappointment about the match. At the moment my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period."

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini - the player bitten by Luis Suarez - says he believes the punishment given to the Uruguay striker is "excessive".

Suarez has been given a nine-match international ban, as well as four-suspension from all football, meaning he can no longer be in contact with the Uruguay squad.

"I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive," said Chiellini.

"I sincerely hope that he will be allowed, at least, to stay close to his team-mates during the games because such a ban is really alienating for a player."

  16. Maradona support for Suarezpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

Diego Maradona has criticised the "Fifa mafia" following the decision by the game's global governing body to impose a four-month ban on Luis Suarez for biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini.

Maradona, who was handed a 15-month ban from football during the 1994 World Cup for testing positive for the banned stimulant ephedrine, declared his unconditional support for the controversial Uruguayan on his television show 'De Zurda' on Thursday.

"The Fifa sanction is shameful - they have no sensitivity towards the fans. They might as well handcuff him and throw him in Guantanamo," said Maradona, who during the programme wore a T-shirt bearing the message 'Luis, we are with you'.
