As you can imagine, Luis Suarez's four-month ban hasn't gone down well in Uruguay.

"It is an excessive decision and there was not enough evidence and I have seen more aggressive incidents recently," said Uruguay FA president Wilmar Valdez. "It feels like Uruguay has been thrown out of the World Cup."

Suarez's lawyer Alejandro Balbi added:"He is totally distraught. He never thought the punishment would be so severe."

Even Suarez's grandmother, Lila Piriz Da Rosa, has had her say: "Everyone knows what they've done to Luis. They wanted him out of the World Cup. Perfect, they did it. They chucked him out of there like a dog."

Chile, who play hosts Brazil in the last 16 on Saturday, had to temporarily suspend a training session on Thursday when a Brazilian news helicopter flew over the team's base.

Communications director Hector Olave said coach Jorge Sampaoli was the most worried "because he was working on tactics and he didn't want them to know how he plans to approach the match".

Defender Mauricio Isla said: "We tried to hit it (the helicopter) with the ball, but we couldn't." The O Globo television station said they would not to broadcast any of the images and later apologised.

As we've already mentioned, Russia coach Fabio Capello was unhappy a laser was shone in goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev's face during his side's World Cup game against Algeria.

Television footage showed a green laser pointed at Akinfeev as he tried to defend Yacine Brahimi's free-kick, which Islam Slimani then scored from. That goal saw the match end 1-1, a result that eliminated Russia.

"The goalkeeper was unable to do his job. The laser beam was in his face," said ex-England manager Capello.

Just to put on our serious face for a bit. The main talking point of Thursday was the news of Uruguay and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez handed a four-month ban for biting.

Here are what the BBC pundits had to say:

Former Liverpool defender Alan Hansen: "I think the punishment's fair. Obviously, the worrying thing for any Liverpool supporter was that there was very little or no provocation, and the question is: Will he do it again?"

South American football expert Tim Vickery: "It is a more severe ban than I thought it would be. I thought it would be restricted to this World Cup. Uruguay's task now is to focus on the upcoming Colombia game without Luis Suarez."

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson: "It's just a case of 'here we go again', isn't it? What does Liverpool owner John Henry do now? I would think he wants to wash his hands of Luis Suarez."

Algeria supporters in 1982 were not happy with the result

This was probably one of our favourite post-match quotes pieces of the World Cup so far - aside from the one when Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi said that Lionel Messi was from Jupiter.

Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic insists Algeria have not forgotten the furore around their 1982 World Cup exit as they prepare to meet Germany in the last 16. We are talking about a match from 32 years ago!

West Germany's (as they were known fact fans) controversial victory over Austria that year allowed both teams to progress at Algeria's expense.

Algerian officials launched a protest, claiming the match was fixed, but the allegations were never proved and the result stood.

"We have not forgotten," Halilhodzic said. "Everybody has been talking about Algeria and Germany from 1982."

    Can you spot the laser?

Details on how you can get involved are on their way. But before all that, let's have a recap of Thursday's fantastic final day of group action.

USA and Germany both through: Both Group G teams needed a draw to be certain. USA lost 1-0; however the result did not matter because Portugal only beat Ghana 2-1. USA and Portugal finished on four points, but because Cristiano Ronaldo's team had got thumped 4-0 by Germany, goal difference came into play.

Blinded by the light! Algeria reach last 16: Russia coach Fabio Capello said a laser pen blinded his goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev moments before Algeria scored their equaliser in the 1-1 draw - a point was enough to see the north African side go through.
