Following the biting controversy that has resulted in a four-month ban from football, Luis Suarez has lost of one his sponsors, the online gambling company 888.com.

"888poker signed Luis Suarez following a fantastic season for which his achievements were widely recognised," said a statement. "Regrettably, following his actions during Uruguay's World Cup match against Italy on Tuesday, 888poker has decided to terminate its relationship with Luis Suarez with immediate effect."

Nigel: Luis Suarez is a disgrace to his club and country. Liverpool should try and get rid asap. He misses most of the season with suspensions anyway. Can't condone behaviour like that in any shape or form. That's 3 times now.

Martin: Such a lack of humility from the Uruguayans. Truly hope they get absolutely spanked by the Colombians.

Luckily, you're flying on Air Force One and you have the remote control. So, for President Barack Obama, the United States' defeat by Germany was watched in mid-air, as seen by the picture tweeted by Doug Mills of the New York Times.

We have a sneaky feeling Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo might not figure in the World Cup XI.

"Portugal were never favourites, you just have to look at qualifying for this. It was difficult from the start," he said after he scored his only goal on Brazil 2014 in Portugal's 2-1 win over Ghana. Both sides were eliminated from the competition.

"We have to be humble and know our capabilities. At the moment, there are better national teams than ours."

"I am very proud, we played a heroic match and we deserved to qualify. We're very, very proud," said Algeria coach Vahid Halilhodzic after his side secured a draw with Russia to reach the last 16 for the first time.

The story of the Desert Foxes' passage to the second round doesn't make great reading for England...

    • This tournament is the first time ever that two African teams have reached the knockout stages (Algeria and Nigeria)

    • Algeria have scored all in three group games - they had previously failed to find the net in five tournament matches

    • Algeria have scored more goals at this World Cup (six) than England have in their past two World Cups combined

  19. No pride for the Lionspublished at 08:27 British Summer Time 27 June 2014

Cameroon president Paul Biya has called for an inquiry into the country's poor performance at the World Cup.

The Indomitable Lions' campaign in Brazil was a disaster as they lost all three group games, had a player sent off and team-mates fought on the pitch. Cameroon conceded nine goals, scored only one and were the first team to be eliminated from the competition.

Prime minister Philemon Yang has been ordered to open an investigation into the causes of the problems. A statement on Cameroon radio said: "He [Yang] should provide results within a month and make proposals for a deep and urgent reconstruction of Cameroon football."
