  1. FULL-TIME

And that's the last tie of the night put to bed. Bolton have beaten Bury 3-2 after extra-time.

  2. Manager reaction

    MK Dons 3-1 AFC Wimbledon

    AFC Wimbledon

AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley: "I think they were better than us. They have a very brave, open philosophy. To concede from a set-piece is hard because you're chasing the game from that point.

"We want a cup run, but we would have liked to have put a smile on the face of our fans. But we're not defined by whether we can beat Milton Keynes, we're defined by what's happened over the last 12 years.

"[The mini pitch invasion] was disappointing. Obviously they want to celebrate the goal. But it is just a minority who have toppled over the edge with their emotion. I don't think there is too much malice in it."

  4. Manager reaction

    MK Dons 3-1 AFC Wimbledon

    Karl Robinson

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson: "It was satisfactory. It's always a hard fixture. You have to give credit to Neal Ardley and his team for how they approached the game. But I thought we looked very clinical.

"It's going to be a very competitive fixture from here on in, regardless of where we play them or whatever league it is in.

"It will never be like the first one. But you have to be careful, because you don't want to undermine anybody and hopefully we've come out of this being very respectful to the opposition."

  51. YELLOW CARD

  54. Post update

    Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla

My head has been turned by events at Molineux, but fear not. Not much going on in Cardiff at the moment, that second Cristiano Ronaldo goal has really stifled Sevilla.

  55. GOAL

    Man Utd 1-1 Valencia

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "The Spanish side draw level after 71 minutes with their first real opportunity as Rodrigo Moreno steals in behind Phil Jones to convert a teasing deep delivery. Not clever defending by the England international."

Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez celebrate

Power. Pure power is enough for Cristiano Ronaldo as he doubles his tally for the night.

Karim Benzema finds Ronaldo bursting into the box, he looks up and then just hammers home a left-footed drive from 15 yards, goalkeeper Beto gets fingers to it but can only slow the ball down as it flies into the corner.

Should he have done better? Maybe. But that was travelling.

    Man Utd 1-0 Valencia

    Manchester United celebrate

"As the crowd celebrates, Louis van Gaal scribbles furiously on a sheaf of paper."

  70. League Cup latest

Millwall and Middlesbrough still lead against Wycombe and Oldham respectively, while Ben Williamson's hat-trick means Port Vale lead Hartlepool 3-1. Portsmouth remain on course to cause an upset against Peterborough, while it's goalless between Morecambe and Bradford.

  71. HALF-TIME

    MK Dons 1-0 AFC Wimbledon

    Wimbledon fans

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Stadium MK: "Dare I say it but it's all been reasonably, well, amicable here.

"MK Dons fans even clapped AFC Wimbledon's Jack Smith as he was taken off on a stretcher. Kyle McFadzean's cheeky goal, scored in front of the visiting supporters, separates the sides.

"Wimbledon have given their contingent little to get behind - all they crave is to have at least one day of eclipsing MK, is it too much for them to ask?"

  72. League Cup latest

Souleymane Doukara is on fire as his second of the game has Leeds 2-0 up against Accrington Stanley at half-time. He latched on to Lewis Cook's ball before finishing superbly. It is not going so well for Leeds' West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, though, who trail Chesterfield 2-0.

Thunder and lightning in the skies above The Valley, where hosts Charlton have the lead against Colchester. U's skipper Magnus Okuonghae handled the ball inside the area and Yoni Buyens sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

A goal by former Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz sees Brentford extend their lead at Dagenham & Redbridge and they are 3-1 just before the break.

  73. Post update

    Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla

    Carlo Ancelotti

  74. HALF-TIME

    Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Bookmakers will be out of pocket yet again as Real Madrid lead through a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. They've not been at their fluent best, but look ominously superb on the break.

There could be a shock on the cards at Ewood Park with Neal Bishop heading League One side Scunthorpe into the lead against Blackburn. At St Andrew's, Ryan Donaldson equalises for League Two outfit Cambridge just before half-time against Birmingham.

There are no such problems for another Championship club Wigan who are ahead at League Two Burton Albion - former West Brom player Marc-Antoine Fortune with the goal. In the all League One tie, Crewe are 1-0 up at Barnsley thanks to Billy Waters' close-range strike.

  76. League Cup latest

Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak springs the offside trap and chips Newport County goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley to give his side a 1-0 lead at the Madejski Stadium.

  77. YELLOW CARD

    Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla

Almost half-time in Cardiff, where Sevilla are enjoying their best spell of possession. Against the best counter-attacking side in the world, keeping the ball isn't always enough though.

Mark Clattenburg then books Dani Carvajal for a cynical shirt-pull.

  78. League Cup latest

More woe for Blackpool, who fall behind to Shrewsbury of League Two. It's Scott Vernon on the scoresheet, chesting neatly before beating Joe Lewis. Credit to Ashley Vincent for some tidy work in the build-up.

I'm confident that our new favourite Jeffrey Rentmeister was not culpable in any way though....

  79. HALF-TIME

    Man Utd 0-0 Valencia

    Louis van Gaal

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "It's been a relatively staid opening 45 minutes of Louis van Gaal's reign at Old Trafford, so much so that the Dutchman spent the duration in his seat. Wayne Rooney's penalty miss was the only real moment of note and one of the few incidents to rouse a remarkably large crowd inside the ground."

  82. Post update

    Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla

  84. League Cup latest

Huddersfield pulled the trigger on former boss Mark Robins one game into the season after they lost 4-0 at home to Bournemouth and it is not getting any better for the Terriers as Chesterfield take the lead, Ritchie Humphreys getting his 37-year-old head to ball into the box to nod in.

  85. Post update

    Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla

    Cristiano Ronaldo

I'm not sure how you can defend against Real Madrid when they are in that mood. Sevilla lost the ball 70 yards from their own goal and a quick one-two between the world's two most expensive players later and they are a goal down.

  86. League Cup latest

Gillingham take the lead at Huish Park as winger Brennan Dickenson makes it 1-0 after a mix-up in the Yeovil Town defence.

  87. GOAL

Real Madrid 1-0 Sevilla - Cristiano Ronaldo (30 mins)

    Cristiano Ronaldo scores
    Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates

What a cross! That is absolutely sensational stuff from Gareth Bale. He collects Cristiano Ronaldo's crossfield pass just over the halfway line, gallops forwards and then swings the ball over, from a good 45 yards out, and it is inch perfect to find Ronaldo at the back post.

He converts, but it was all about the pass. On the money.

  88. League Cup latest

Good news for Dave Hockaday as his Leeds side have taken the lead against Accrington Stanley. Souleymane Doukara, on loan at Leeds from Italian side Catania, opens his account for the club with a finish on the turn.

  90. GREAT SAVE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Sevilla

Brilliant. It's brilliant play from Real Madrid as Toni Kroos switches play with a perfect 45-yard pass out wide, Karim Benzema recycles it inside, Cristiano Ronaldo's first touch takes him away from his marker and when the whole ground waits for the net to bulge, Sevilla keeper Beto makes a brave one-handed save.

  91. League Cup latest

Birmingham take the lead against League Two Cambridge thanks to a strike from summer free signing Clayton Donaldson. Over at Ashton Gate, League One Bristol City are in a good position to make it two wins from two after going 1-0 ahead against League Two Oxford United, with an effort from 20-year-old Joe Bryan.

  92. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Sevilla

BBC Wales football correspondent Rob Phillips at Cardiff City Stadium: "No doubt the Sevilla fans are setting the tone with the singing inside the Cardiff City Stadium.

  93. GOAL

    MK Dons 1-0 AFC Wimbledon

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Stadium MK: "Do you remember that goal Gianfranco Zola scored against Norwich City? That near-post flick of wonder?

"Well Kyle McFadzean has just done the same thing for MK Dons - but in a more League One kind of way. It's taken the bite out of the AFC Wimbledon fans' chants, who must just be sick and tired of the letters M and K."

  94. League Cup latest

Bad news if you arrived 20 minutes late at Vale Park - you've missed a feast of goals. League One side Port Vale are already 3-1 up against League Two Hartlepool, and striker Ben Williamson has grabbed a hat-trick for the Valiants.

Meanwhile, there could be a shock on the cards at Fratton Park, where League Two Portsmouth lead League One Peterborough 1-0 thanks to Miles Storey's drilled effort.

  95. MISSED PENALTY

    Wayne Rooney misses penalty

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Manchester United have just enjoyed the first real opportunity of the game but Wayne Rooney's spot kick - after he was impeded when trying to connect with an Ashley Young cross - cannoned against an upright."

  96. GREAT SAVE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Sevilla

Gareth Bale is getting closer! He makes up some tremendous ground at the back post to meet a hanging James Rodriguez cross, sliding in to reach it and hook the ball on goal. Goalkeeper Beto makes the save though.

Diego Costa has made a superb start on his Chelsea home debut with two goals inside the first eight minutes of the pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad at a wet Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international, who cost the Blues £32m from Atletico Madrid, slid home the first from Ramires' pass in the opening minute, before tapping in when Andre Schurrle's shot came off the post.

It's not looking promising for Fernando Torres...

What a start to his Nottingham Forest career for Michail Antonio. The £1.5m winger makes it two in two outings for the Reds to give them an early lead against Tranmere, heading home Chris Burke's cross at the back post.

  99. CLOSE!

    Real Madrid 0-0 Sevilla

    Real Madrid are getting closer.

Cristiano Ronaldo fires a dipping free-kick onto the roof of the net before Gareth Bale has another powerful shot well charged down on the edge of the area. Shoot on sight policy from the Real front four so far...

  101. CLOSE!

Gareth Bale's first chance to shoot is not one he turns down. The Welshman is not shut down and cracks in a rising left-footed drive which is deflected just wide of the far post.

    Get out the map book

Rotherham's League Cup game against Fleetwood is well under way but there is one very notable absentee from the directors' box at the New York Stadium.

Fleetwood chairman Andy Pilley evidently punched 'Rotherham stadium' into his satellite navigation system and it seems to have not been updated with new maps, as he tweet from Sheffield: "Disaster we have just arrived at the Don Valley. Damn sat nav has took us to old ground!!"

His side are drawing 0-0 at the moment.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has the first shot of the night but drags his left-footed effort tamely at Beto in the Sevilla goal. James Rodriguez is playing on the left of a midfield trio in the early stages. Expect plenty of rotation though...

  106. Post update

    Man Utd 0-0 Valencia

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Expect plenty of discussion about Manchester United and tactics this term. Tonight, Louis van Gaal has his XI assembled in a 3-4-1-2 shape with Reece James and Ashley Young on the flanks and Juan Mata off the front two with much pointing and cajoling among the players as they try to get to grips with an unfamiliar system.

"So far, United have recycled possession relatively diligently, albeit one or two of the back three still seem more than a touch apprehensive with the ball at their feet. With the tempo slow, though, chances have been scant."

  107. Post update

    Real Madrid 0-0 Sevilla

Toni Kroos has taken up a very deep position in the Real Madrid midfield, demanding the ball from the back four like a Germanic Paul Scholes and ticking the ball over. Unsurprisingly, Madrid are dominating the early possession.

MK Dons v AFC Wimbledon (19:45 BST)

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Stadium MK: "The edge that enveloped this ground when these two sides first faced each other two years ago has definitely diminished this time around.

"For one, AFC Wimbledon have probably brought about a quarter of the travelling support that made it for that FA Cup defeat.

"Still, I expect it to be a prickly affair. Oh - and Bayo Akinfenwa starts for the visitors, so whatever happens, we're in for a treat."

Man Utd v Valencia (19:30 BST)

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Another small point of order this evening is the curious presence of a 28-year-old from Dundee in the Valencia dugout.

"Former Dundee United youth-team coach Ian Cathro is assistant to Nuno Espirito Santo, the duo having struck up a rapport at a coaching course in Ayrshire a few years ago and teamed up to guide hitherto unheralded Portuguese club Rio Ave to two cup finals last season. That, in turn, earned the pair a move to Spain in the summer."

  120. Ties to watch out for

Tranmere v Nottm Forest (19:45 BST)

    Stuatr Pearce

Stuart Pearce got his tenure as Nottingham Forest manager off to the perfect start with victory over Blackpool on Saturday but may find a tougher test against a Tranmere side celebrating the start of a new era.

Former Football Association chief executive Mark Palios and his wife Nicola became the new owners of the League Two side earlier this week, and it could give the players and fans that little boost to cause a cup upset.

Man Utd v Valencia (19:30 BST)

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Louis van Gaal's first Old Trafford programme notes stress the importance of continued improvement and pleasing the supporters. To that end, the announcement of the following starting XI seemed to curry favour...

"De Gea, Jones, Mata, Rooney, Smalling, Hernandez, Young, Herrera, Fletcher, James, Blackett.

"The Dutchman also added: 'I have managed in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, so there was only one football country I wanted to see inside and that was England because of the level of the Premier League and the atmosphere. I cannot wait to get started.'"

  127. Mate, can you play on Tuesday night?

    Shrewsbury v Blackpool

    Jose Riga

We've all been there. You've got a 5-a-side game in midweek but Gaz has cryed off 'injured', Dave is not allowed out after a row with his missus, Steve doesn't fancy it in the rain and Pete's car is in for a service.

You're four men short and have to go through your phonebook hoping to find someone available. All standards catered for.

Blackpool boss Jose Riga is in the same boat tonight, as after being able to name just four substitutes in their Championship opener at the weekend, Riga's boys travel to Shrewsbury in the League Cup tonight hoping at the very least to be able to fill the bench.

It has been a summer of turmoil at the Seasiders and just two weeks ago they had only eight players registered but Riga has been busy recruiting and could have just enough for a full squad against the Shrews.

Man Utd v Valencia (19:30 BST)

    Welcome to Vanchester sign

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "There is a palpable sense of excitement in the environs of Old Trafford this evening. Louis van Gaal scarves and those split between the colours of Manchester United and the Netherlands are selling briskly ahead of the new manager's first home game.

"Then, when the Dutchman strolled out on to the pitch 35 minutes before kick-off - shoulders back, chin out, stomach held in - those already inside the ground rose to acclaim him. Already, the crackle has returned to this grand old stadium."

  131. Post update

Any Liverpool fans hoping to scout a possible new left-back tonight have been disappointed then - Alberto Moreno will not play this evening as he ties up his move to Merseyside.

  132. Post update

Real Madrid v Sevilla (19:45 BST)

BBC Sport's Ben Smith reports: "Liverpool have agreed a £12m fee with Sevilla for Spanish left back Alberto Moreno.

"The 22-year-old has been withdrawn from tonight's Uefa Super Cup and is expected on Merseyside for a medical later in the week. Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has spent the day in Cardiff finalising the deal and will be a guest of Sevilla at tonight's game."

  133. Post update

MK Dons v AFC Wimbledon (19:45 BST)

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne: "We've been here once before - the club that got shifted 60 miles up the country taking on the club that rose out of the carnage. The circus has not been as rowdy as the first time MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon met nearly two years ago in the FA Cup.

"But the venom still exists, particularly from the Wimbledon side, making this a stand-out League Cup tie.

"MK boss Karl Robinson has played the game down, insisting any of his side's 46 league games are more important. Wimbledon fans would beg to differ - the events of the last 11 years still sit freshly in their minds."

  134. League Cup

There are games that could throw up a couple of upsets in the Capital One Cup first round tonight.

Bolton's home game against Bury has the potential to be a mouth-watering clash, especially for fans up in the north west of England. Just six miles separate the two teams, possibly making it the closest derby on tonight's fixture list, and they always have the potential for a surprise result.

Elsewhere Luton, back in the Football League this season, host Swindon while Huddersfield, who sacked manager Mark Robins one game into the season on Sunday, travel to Chesterfield.

  136. The richest team in the world?

Real Madrid v Sevilla (19:45 BST)

    Real Madrid possible XI

You could probably buy most of the 64 Football League sides in action tonight for £400m. That's a lot of cash.

It's also the approximate cost of Real Madrid's most expensive XI this season, with the new addition of James Rodriguez taking the front four alone to £255m.

Nine of that potential team start tonight.

How does Carlo Ancelotti begin to try to keep all of his stars happy? It's a nice problem to have.

Spanish football writer Andy West says: "In a dressing room packed with more than half a billion pounds worth of talent, maintaining a spirit of unity - both on and off the pitch - could be the key to the team's success.

"If Ancelotti gets it right and keeps everyone pulling in the same direction, they could be unstoppable."

    Quite.

  137. Team News

Real Madrid v Sevilla (19:45 BST)

Let's be honest - this isn't a bad XI. It would certainly give Cardiff a run for their money.

New boys James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos both start for Real Madrid, as do Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid: Casillas, Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Coentrao, Kroos, Modric, Rodriguez, Ronaldo, Bale; Benzema.

"We want to win the Super Cup," said Ancelotti.

It's been another busy summer in the Real Madrid secretary's office.

After fine World Cup displays, Colombian number 10 James Rodriguez, German string-puller Toni Kroos and Costa Rican shot-stopper Keylor Navas have all made the trip to the Bernabeu.

Golden Boot winner Rodriguez cost a smidge over £60m, Kroos a relative bargain at £24m from Bayern Munich and Navas £8m.

  148. Welcome home Gareth

Real Madrid v Sevilla (19:45 BST)

    Gareth Bale

It is just over nine years since Gareth Bale left school in Cardiff to pursue his dream of being a professional football.

The then left-back was snapped up by Southampton, making his debut in the Saints first team at the age of 16 years and 275 days.

Soon, Bale was on the move to London and Tottenham Hotspur for an initial fee of £5m. Initially the youngster did not light up White Hart Lane, but by 2013 he was in a league of his own.

He scored 26 goals in all competitions - most of them goal of the season contenders - and then sealed a world record £85m move to Real Madrid to become Wales' biggest export since slate.

Tonight he is back in his home city, a star in a team of Galacticos as Real face Sevilla for the Uefa Super Cup.

Will Bale make Cardiff proud once more?
