Power. Pure power is enough for Cristiano Ronaldo as he doubles his tally for the night.

Karim Benzema finds Ronaldo bursting into the box, he looks up and then just hammers home a left-footed drive from 15 yards, goalkeeper Beto gets fingers to it but can only slow the ball down as it flies into the corner.

Should he have done better? Maybe. But that was travelling.

Sevilla start the second period brightly with Denis Suarez - once of Manchester City - looking a threat down the left flank.

I make it 11 ties which are still level at half-time. That's 11 ties which could go to extra-time and penalties. That's 11 too many...

Gavin from London: This is the first time in over a decade that a team has been constructed that is too good for Xabi Alonso to start in...scary

Matt in Bath: That Real shirt collar has a hint of Newcastle in 1995. Keep expecting Sir Les to pop up.

Les Ferdinand for Karim Benzema - the only way this team could get any better?

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "Ashley Young's corner is not cleared properly and Darren Fletcher's low effort from the edge of the area rears up off the outstretched boot of a defender and past Diego Alves in the Valencia goal.

"As the crowd celebrates, Louis van Gaal scribbles furiously on a sheaf of paper."

Plymouth have given themselves hope of a comeback against Leyton Orient. After going 2-0 behind to strikes from Dean Cox and Mathieu Baudry, Reuben Reid scored on the stroke of half-time for the League Two side to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Millwall and Middlesbrough still lead against Wycombe and Oldham respectively, while Ben Williamson's hat-trick means Port Vale lead Hartlepool 3-1. Portsmouth remain on course to cause an upset against Peterborough, while it's goalless between Morecambe and Bradford.

BBC Sport's Chris Osborne at Stadium MK: "Dare I say it but it's all been reasonably, well, amicable here.

"MK Dons fans even clapped AFC Wimbledon's Jack Smith as he was taken off on a stretcher. Kyle McFadzean's cheeky goal, scored in front of the visiting supporters, separates the sides.

"Wimbledon have given their contingent little to get behind - all they crave is to have at least one day of eclipsing MK, is it too much for them to ask?"

Souleymane Doukara is on fire as his second of the game has Leeds 2-0 up against Accrington Stanley at half-time. He latched on to Lewis Cook's ball before finishing superbly. It is not going so well for Leeds' West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, though, who trail Chesterfield 2-0.

Thunder and lightning in the skies above The Valley, where hosts Charlton have the lead against Colchester. U's skipper Magnus Okuonghae handled the ball inside the area and Yoni Buyens sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot.

A goal by former Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz sees Brentford extend their lead at Dagenham & Redbridge and they are 3-1 just before the break.

BBC Wales football correspondent Rob Phillips at Cardiff City Stadium: "What a contrast between the two managers.

"Carlo Ancelotti standing still, chewing gum, but showing little emotion. Unai Emery waving arms and shouting orders as his side try to stem the white tide."

Bookmakers will be out of pocket yet again as Real Madrid lead through a Cristiano Ronaldo goal. They've not been at their fluent best, but look ominously superb on the break.

Trophy one of six looks to be on its way to Madrid.

There could be a shock on the cards at Ewood Park with Neal Bishop heading League One side Scunthorpe into the lead against Blackburn. At St Andrew's, Ryan Donaldson equalises for League Two outfit Cambridge just before half-time against Birmingham.

There are no such problems for another Championship club Wigan who are ahead at League Two Burton Albion - former West Brom player Marc-Antoine Fortune with the goal. In the all League One tie, Crewe are 1-0 up at Barnsley thanks to Billy Waters' close-range strike.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 12 August 2014

Almost half-time in Cardiff, where Sevilla are enjoying their best spell of possession. Against the best counter-attacking side in the world, keeping the ball isn't always enough though.

Mark Clattenburg then books Dani Carvajal for a cynical shirt-pull.

More woe for Blackpool, who fall behind to Shrewsbury of League Two. It's Scott Vernon on the scoresheet, chesting neatly before beating Joe Lewis. Credit to Ashley Vincent for some tidy work in the build-up.

I'm confident that our new favourite Jeffrey Rentmeister was not culpable in any way though....

    Louis van GaalImage source, AP

BBC Sport's Richard Winton at Old Trafford: "It's been a relatively staid opening 45 minutes of Louis van Gaal's reign at Old Trafford, so much so that the Dutchman spent the duration in his seat. Wayne Rooney's penalty miss was the only real moment of note and one of the few incidents to rouse a remarkably large crowd inside the ground."
