Last year's Super Cup final proved decisive for Romelu Lukaku, as the then Chelsea striker missed a penalty in a shootout defeat by Bayern Munich. It would be his last kick in a Chelsea shirt.

A day later and the Belgian was packed off to Everton on loan, and he has now made Goodison his permanent home.

Will anybody be making their final appearance tonight?

The Super Cup presents Real boss Carlo Ancelotti with the chance to win the first of a possible six trophies during the 2014-15 campaign.

As well as defending their Champions League title and trying to regain the La Liga title, Real will also be looking to win the Copa del Rey, the Fifa Club World Cup in Morocco in December, and the two-legged 2014 Supercopa de Espana.

"We want to win the Super Cup," said Ancelotti.

"When you play in a final you prepare to win it and give your all.

"As with all finals, it will be very difficult, although we may be favourites because we are Real Madrid."

It's been another busy summer in the Real Madrid secretary's office.

After fine World Cup displays, Colombian number 10 James Rodriguez, German string-puller Toni Kroos and Costa Rican shot-stopper Keylor Navas have all made the trip to the Bernabeu.

Golden Boot winner Rodriguez cost a smidge over £60m, Kroos a relative bargain at £24m from Bayern Munich and Navas £8m.

All three may feature this evening as Real look to win the first of the six trophies available to them this season...

As long as Cristiano Ronaldo is around, Gareth Bale will always be at best second fiddle on the Real Madrid superstar chart, but this evening the Welshman will take centre stage.

It is just over nine years since Gareth Bale left school in Cardiff to pursue his dream of being a professional football.

The then left-back was snapped up by Southampton, making his debut in the Saints first team at the age of 16 years and 275 days.

Soon, Bale was on the move to London and Tottenham Hotspur for an initial fee of £5m. Initially the youngster did not light up White Hart Lane, but by 2013 he was in a league of his own.

He scored 26 goals in all competitions - most of them goal of the season contenders - and then sealed a world record £85m move to Real Madrid to become Wales' biggest export since slate.

Tonight he is back in his home city, a star in a team of Galacticos as Real face Sevilla for the Uefa Super Cup.

Will Bale make Cardiff proud once more?
