Alex Song makes his first start for West Ham after coming off the bench against Hull on Monday, and Hammers fans will be hoping the on-loan Barcelona midfielder does not get a little starstruck as he prepares to come face-to-face with his idol.

The 27-year-old used to train every single day in a shirt previously worn by Steven Gerrard, having been given it by his cousin - former Reds defender Rigobert Song - when he was a kid.

"The first time I went to England was 1999 when I was watching Rigobert play. It was crazy because I took some pictures with the players - I was 12 years old," he says. "Then Rigobert gave me Gerrard's shirt from that day and I have kept it. I was training every single day in it. I have still got the shirt. When you are young and someone gives you a shirt, you have to keep it."

Matt Hughes-Short:, external Fair to say that Alan Pardew owes Papiss Cisse a couple of portions of goat curry after that display.

Will Mann:, external The fact that Newcastle only just scraped a draw against Hull at home tells me that Pardew should still be on the way out...

Callum Sibley:, external I'm sorry but three points in five games is not good enough. Pardew's reign has run its course.

In the 2012-13 season, Cisse blamed a goal drought on goat curry being taken off the menu, external at Newcastle's training ground.

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck: "I'm particularly pleased to get off the mark. It was a good team performance.

"We got behind them. We knew it would be difficult today. They had their chances but when we took our first one we looked in control of the game.

"I haven't had as many training sessions as I 'd like but I am starting to get to the players a lot better."

Hull midfielder Mo Diame: "The Premier League is never finished until it's finished. We are very disappointed not to win the game. We got too deep and couldn't keep the ball.

"It is two points lost. We knew that we could have the crowd with us today."

Vince: I don't really understand what you Newcastle fans are expecting. The last time you finished anywhere near the top four before Pardew was in the Sir Bobby Robson days. Newcastle are a mid-table club and that's the harsh reality.

Jack in York: As a Newcastle fan I'm bewildered as to how Pardew is coming under this pressure. We have three ordinary centre-backs, one right-back, no natural left winger and unless Cisse hits form no decent striker. Even Sir Alex can't improve this. Every year we sign players to make a profit and never to better the side, just to replace ones he has sold. Ashley does not care about progression or cup runs. Pardew has had three-and-a-half years at Newcastle. He kept us in the Premier League after promotion, a fifth place finish, European football and a top 10 finish. No team can boast that in their first four seasons up from the Championship!

Younger readers may not believe me when I tell them that a side containing Shaka Hislop, Marlon Harewood, Carl Fletcher and Lionel Scaloni were moments away from winning the FA Cup eight years ago, but they sure were.

West Ham were only denied by a familiar foe - Steven Gerrard screaming in a 30-yarder in stoppage time of a brilliant 3-3 draw in Cardiff. Watch the video and enjoy/endure.

The best final since 1990? Probably.

Will Gerrard be a thorn in the Hammers' side again today? Probably..

Gerrard has nine goals against West Ham. Only John Toshack (10) has scored more against them for Liverpool.

Poor Deportivo La Coruna. Real Madrid have hit back with a vengeance after two successive La Liga defeats by crushing their opponents 8-2.
