Discussing Chelsea's summer capture of former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown: "Jose Mourinho demonstrated his love for Fabregas and I think went out to see him personally to convince him to sign, that was something Sir Alex Ferguson was very good at as well to get the players he wanted in through the door."

Former QPR and Man City winger Trevor Sinclair: "Mourinho made it clear he wanted Fabregas. He came out and said 'I really want you' and as player you want to hear that, and you want to play for that manager."

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown: "Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has a philosophy of how he wants to play football which is where it will be difficult at Chelsea. He thinks his team are good enough to beat anyone but if you don't defend in numbers against Chelsea they will punish you.

"The players have to recognise it and their game management has to be better. The manager doesn't give you any restrictions. I would imagine Mathieu Flamini being important for Arsenal if he plays."

Former QPR and Man City winger Trevor Sinclair: "I'm shocked [at Wenger's philosophy] because offensively you can have your philosophy but defensively surely you change your game."

Arsenal will not have good memories of their last trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea.

It was Gunners manager Arsene Wenger's 1,000th game in charge of the club and ended in a 6-0 defeat.

Just to jog the old memory banks, it was also the game in which referee Andre Marriner sent off Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs by mistake when it should have been Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who saw red.

What a let-off that is for Manchester United, then. They did, however, edge that first half - enjoying 10 efforts at goal, compared to Everton's two. Now let's preview the upcoming action from Stamford Bridge...

BBC Radio Merseyside summariser and former Everton winger Ronny Goodlass at Old Trafford: "It was a poor penalty from Leighton Baines. He's got a tremendous record but it's not in the corner, it's one of the poorest he has taken.

"A double slap in the face for Everton. Now you go in 1-0 down and having missed a penalty. Manchester Untied will be on a high now, it's like they have scored again, and with a bit of a kick up the behind."

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown: "It was not a bad penalty but it was a very good save."

Former QPR and Man City winger Trevor Sinclair: "De Gea looked super confident. He just made the goal look very small."

    Guy Mowbray
BBC Match of the Day commentator at Old Trafford

"The cheers that greeted that penalty save were as loud as those for Angel di Maria's opening goal. David de Gea's stop make it a very different picture at half-time. Manchester United have created more of the chances, but the visitors have posed more of a threat since falling behind."

David De Gea is the toast of Old Trafford - guessing correctly to save Leighton Baines's low, powerful effort down to the Manchester United keeper's right.

Kuntal Majumdar:, external Romelu Lukaku needs way too many chances to produce a finish. Will never really become a top striker.

Israel Mbaebie:, external Unarguably Angel Di Maria is the best player so far.

Dom Breslin:, external Very flat half from Everton. Lion's share of possession but no killer instinct. Missing Kevin Mirallas badly. Sameul Eto'o on after half-time.

A funny tale about Louis van Gaal (see 11 mins) has got us asking: Who's the most famous person you've met in the lift? And did they say anything to you?

Dan Cooper:, external Barry McGuigan in Florida when I was 12. Whispered to my dad I thought he was too scrawny to be a boxer and my dad told him!

Phil Worms:, external Not a lift, but shared a London Eye pod with Paul Lambert and his family about a week after the Champions League final. Top bloke.

Charlie Clemmow:, external I went swimming with Edinson Cavani in Luxembourg. Gave me an evil stare when he heard me say his name.

Another scare for Everton when the hosts win a corner which subsequently picks out Radamel Falcao unmarked on the penalty spot, but the on-loan striker shins his effort well over the bar.

BBC Radio Merseyside summariser and former Everton winger Ronny Goodlass at Old Trafford: "It's the pass of the game from Leighton Baines to find Romelu Lukaku (39 mins). He's taken it down well but you have to hit the target. Chances have been few and far between for Everton.

"Manchester United are in the ascendancy."

Discussing how Manchester United look with Juan Mata in the team ahead of the suspended Wayne Rooney against Everton.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown: "There's not many games for Manchester United to play this season, and there is a balancing act to fit everyone in. Juan Mata has slotted in easily and he played a lovely ball in to Angel Di Maria for the goal. Wayne's making life difficult for himself at the moment but surely Louis van Gaal will find a way to get him in."

Sunday Mirror journalist Andy Dunn: "We wondered how Manchester United would fit all these players in but I have to say against Everton today, without Rooney, they look more balanced. Mata fills that position well and flourish there."

Former QPR and Man City winger Trevor Sinclair: "Managers sometimes get lucky with injuries and suspensions and they don't have to make those decisions. It can be out of their hands."

Paddy McNair is having a good first half, but the minute he switches off Romelu Lukaku gets goal-side, after Leighton Baines's clipped ball down the flank, but the big Belgian smashes his effort wide.

William:, external Really like Patrick McNair. I know it's early but he looks the business.

Sam Wilson:, external Nair has Romelu Lukaku in his back pocket, very impressed!

Kaushik Gorai:, external It looks as if McNair is much more solid and assured than Marcos Rojo. Love to see it when academy players flourish.

A nice spell of pressure for Everton, with Paddy McNair getting in front of Romelu Lukaku to head clear a Leighton Baines cross.

Suheil Patel:, external How did Real Madrid let him leave! Angel Di Maria again with a sumptuous finish!

Adam Byrne:, external That goal was Steven Pienaar's fault. All he had to do was hold the ball on the right wing but he gives it away and gets booked! Mindless!

Sahil Loomba:, external Everton haven't even got started! Still waking up on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Midweek adventure has knackered them.
