Phil Bayley:, external No Ander Herrera worse than no Wayne Rooney. Think I'd be less worried if Darren Fletcher was in rather than Antonio Valencia. Still, better than Marouane Fellaini.

BBC Radio Merseyside summariser and former Everton winger Ronny Goodlass at Old Trafford: "Last season Everton were fantastic here. We got a monkey off our back by getting over the line and they need to come with the same confidence and the same game-plan today, and threaten in that last third. Romelu Lukaku, he can really put a marker down to say: 'Yes I am a top player.'

"Sir Alex Ferguson got a great reception from the crowd earlier. He looks like he can still play!"

Hang on, it looks like Manchester United are 12-strong as they walk onto the pitch. Is Fred the Red thinking he's part of the team today? Quick, someone tell him.

  10. Stones 'a born leader'published at 11:53 British Summer Time 5 October 2014

John Stones is good, isn't he? At just 20 years of age he's a regular in the Everton team and very much in Roy Hodgson's England plans. But how good will he become?

"He is a complete centre-half," raved manager Roberto Martinez., external "He is a leader. He is born with that quality. He has real high standards in everything he does and for a young man he has always got the right approach on a daily basis.

"In my eyes he is a potential captain and leader, someone very close to Phil Jagielka and Gareth Barry."

How Manchester United supporters would love to welcome Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer, should the best/second-best* player in the world leave Real Madrid.

However, a club source has told the Daily Mail that any move is unlikely to happen because of the player's age (he'll be 30 at the start of next season), an expected transfer fee of £60m and reported wage demands of £20m a year.

"Ronaldo will always be loved here," the Old Trafford source told the Daily Mail., external "But if you look at the numbers and his age than you have to ask if it really could be made to work. We are not at all sure it can."

Steven McNamara:, external Wayne Rooney not playing is a plus. He was a disgrace at Leicester having a go at everyone like a school kid, Falcao to score twice and Robin van Persie, 3-1.

Shohidur Rahman:, external I can't believe Louis van Gaal hasn't dropped one of the strikers, preferably van Persie. There's only Daley Blind who's defensive.

Safteyfirst:, external The Everton formation today will be too much for Blind. I predict 4-4-2 for Man United after 20 mins!

    BBC Radio

BBC Radio Merseyside summariser and former Everton winger Ronny Goodlass at Old Trafford: "It's a big blow not to have James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman in the side. I thought one would be fit to play. Without Coleman you don't get that positive running from full-back. But Muhamed Besic has stepped in and it's good to see Steven Pienaar back, hopefully he can hit the ground running.

"Aiden McGeady has shown quality in patches, but can he get that consistency? Everton came here last year and got a great result with a fantastic performance. They've got to do the same again."

Tom Wright:, external After Leicester I'm not confident about any opposition, but with Seamus Coleman out I'm looking forward to seeing Angel Di Maria v Tony Hibbert.

Jonathan Guckian:, external Fully expect both teams to purge the ghost of 'MoyesBall' with a 5-4 thriller today.

Victor Chatfield:, external As much as I love Wayne Rooney, his suspension could actually help us - how scarily good does that team look today?! Juan Mata will excel!

From Real Madrid to Manchester United. Is that a good career move? A step up? A step back? Or a move sideways.

Angel Di Maria reckons it's boosted his career.

"Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career," he said., external "It was a very important moment and I'm really happy here.

"With every day that goes by, I feel much more relaxed and settled here. I've got a house and my family are happy."

    Louis van GaalImage source, PA

Fellow Dutchman Johan Cruyff believes Louis van Gaal will bring the necessary structure to Manchester United's game but believes the key to his success will be how the new recruits such as Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao adapt.

"They need to be organised because they were totally disorganised and normally Van Gaal is a very good organiser to put things his way and in the way that (they) should be," Cruyff told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.

"That's creating the basis. From then on you have got to build.

"It depends how quickly the other players adjust themselves."

Phil Mingo:, external We need to totally wipe the grin off of Everton's face from last season. Man United must beat them convincingly.

Hridaya Mahata:, external I cannot see Tony Hibbert's work rate anywhere near Angel Di Maria's. Everton - be ready to be thrashed.

Usama Zafar:, external Only reason to play Antonio Valencia over Fletcher in midfield is that Louis van Gaal doesn't want to compromise pace of his squad. SPEED.
