Stewart Downing, the best midfielder in England on current form? Big Sam thinks so anyway. But does he make Garth Crooks's team of the week? You'll have to find out later...

More from West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "Since Stewart Downing has switched position he has been in top form and I thought he was the man of the match today. He was outstanding in possession and the way he passed the ball was fantastic.

"[On whether he could play for England] I think so but that is another choice for Roy Hodgson. I don't think there is anybody playing in midfield that is better than Stewart Downing."

More from West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "It was a long summer on the recruitment side of things, trying to get the players we wanted, but because of our perseverance we were successful in the end. These lads have hit the ground running, and that is why we haven't had the problems that other teams have had. The amount of training they have done, and because our dressing room is a very good environment to come into, they feel at home and that helps them settle in in quickly.

"Both Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho can score goals, and not only the threat they give the opposition but the work rate they have out of possession has given us stability and an impetus that allows us to be more attacking and creative - I would say that is apparent by today's performance."

On the subject of the international break, I've already mentioned who England play but what about the other home nations? Well, Wales host Bosnia-Hercegovina and Cyprus, Scotland host Georgia then travel to Poland, while Northern Ireland tackle the Faroe Islands (home) and Greece (away).

Elsewhere, Republic of Ireland host Gibraltar and visit Germany.

It sounds like Harry is getting tough with one or two players. It's a big two weeks while the international break is on.

More from QPR manager Harry Redknapp: "Sandro hasn't started yet, he was a quality player for me at Tottenham but he hasn't got his QPR career going. We need to get him fit, and now we have two weeks to get them up and running. Adel Taarabt needs two weeks of solid training. If you can't run around for 90 minutes and work hard then you shouldn't be playing, that is a basic requirement.

"These players missed the start of pre-season, so when we get everybody OK we can be more solid. We have to become difficult to beat, maybe we have to be a more boring 0-0 team and try to knick a goal because we can't be that expansive. We leave ourselves too open at the moment."

QPR manager Harry Redknapp: "We wanted to get into the game and silence the crowd and then we go and concede the goal. Someone said it was handball, I haven't seen the replay so I don't know but it was the worst possible start, and then they up their game and it becomes more difficult.

"We had a good chance from Charlie Austin just after half-time, we just needed to get a break at that time but it didn't come.

"With all the teams I have had, you can look and more or less tell who is going to score and how many. We lost a goalscorer when Loic Remy left, we lost 16 goals in my opinion there, so we need midfielders to score goals, we need Charlie to weigh in with 16 for us but also from elsewhere."

Since joining Arsenal in 2010, no player has given away more Premier League penalties than Lauren Koscielny (8).

    Look away now Everton fans...

The Toffees recorded their 300th loss in the Premier League today, more than any other side.

More from West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "In the end we were very composed apart from a period of 10 minutes in the second half where they changed their system. We didn't come to terms with it because they were almost playing the same way as we were, but the second goal settled us down.

"If I had a criticism it would be not pushing them enough in the final third, but ultimately that would be greedy on the basis that we won 2-0 and got our first clean sheet. That is what I have been striving for from the boys, so it's the perfect result for us."

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce: "The result against Tottenham was a bitter pill to swallow, and the strength in depth in my squad has shown through today. We had seven injured before we started the game. That tested the capacity of our squad and we have come up trumps. Everything is rosy and looking nice. It's always good going into the international break in the top half of the table, and we are in double figures after seven games. Can we now push on when we reconvene?"

When the Premier League does return on 18 October, Manchester City will host Tottenham, Chelsea visit Crystal Palace and Arsenal welcome Hull to the Emirates. The following day, it's QPR v Liverpool. On the Monday night, Manchester United are at West Brom.

So, the Premier League will be shutting down for the best part of a fortnight as the international break kicks in. England host San Marino on Thursday, then visit Estonia on Sunday. Not that Harry Redknapp will be watching. He claimed earlier he would rather watch Corrie than England v San Marino.

Diafra Sakho is on top form for West Ham since that summer move from Metz. He is the first Hammers player to score in four consecutive Premier League matches since Carlton Cole did likewise in the 2008-09 season. He'll soon stop scoring once I transfer him into my fantasy football team.

Looking at that Premier League table (18:17), it's all looking good for Chelsea who are five points clear. But check out the difference in points between fourth-placed Manchester United and Stoke in 16th. It's just three points. One win.
