That's why they wanted him in the team! Harry Kane has won it, but his first Premier League goal of the season is served up with a huge slice of luck! Kane approaches the free-kick like Cristiano Ronaldo, chest on, goes for the dipper, and it flicks the head of Nathan Baker before wrong-footing Brad Guzan and dropping into the opposite corner.

Nell:, external Spurs fans moaned in the equaliser, let's see if they can moan in a late winner!

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Andreas Weimann, breaker of the goal drought, is off for Villa as Kieran Richardson gets a run-out. Andros Townsend wins another corner for Spurs, the defending is shoddy again but Ryan Mason scuffs his 15-yard strike. Villa can't clear it and win a free-kick on the edge of the box...

"Nacer Chadli was free round the far side - he recognised the space was there and finished it well when it came to him. It's a very disappointing goal to concede from an Aston Villa point of view. But the momentum has been with Spurs since the sending off and they could go on to win it."

  5. CLOSE!published at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Instead it's Villa who go close o the third goal! Gaby Agbonlahor leads the counter-attack, he picks out Aly Cissokho on the edge of the D and the former Liverpool left-back cannons a shot just wide. Suddenly it's all getting exciting...

A really poor goal to concede, and Spurs are level! Their extra man finally counts. Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen challenge for a corner, they don't make contact but Nacer Chadli comes in behind them and steers home a volley from six yards out.

Can they go on and win it now?

Nigel: The very minimum supporters want from their team is passion, hard work, motivation, belief and respect for the shirt. This Spurs team have none of these and they should be ashamed. Sean says it's a transition year for Spurs (see 74 mins) - it's been a transition year for the last 30!

Eight minutes of normal time, though it will feel like more for those watching. A real lack of quality on display at Villa Park.

Sam Willlson:, external Carlos Sanchez looks a real good buy for Villa, dominated at Loftus Road on Monday and looking sharp today too.

Paul Moore:, external With Harry Kane on the pitch, and 11 men against 10, Spurs still look hopeless in attack ... and defence.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17:37 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

The Villa fans are baying for blood as Nacer Chadli slides in late on Ashley Westwood. It's untidy rather than malicious but Chadli is booked for the foul. Villa killing the clock. Into the last 10.

"Aston Villa are dropping off now, they have got two banks of four with Gabriel Agbonlahor playing on his own up front. But they are not going to be too quick to get forward, they will just sit in and make it difficult for Spurs to dislodge them. Spurs have to just try and play those incisive passes around the box to find a way through."

  12. Postpublished at 17:34 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Tottenham looking threatening since Villa went down to 10 men but they haven't created anything of note. Erik Lamela wants the ball and is a willing runner at the back four but Brad Guzan remains untroubled.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Gabriel Agbonlahor is on, a 16-minute tester for any defence when he gets up and running. Fast as a very fast thing, he replaces Charles N'Zogbia.

Siobhan, Teddington: I'm all for giving managers time but Ronald Koeman has had to pick up the pieces at Southampton and has got them motivated and second in the table. Spurs need to work hard and care about what they're doing.

Matt, North London: This is the worst Spurs team I have seen in decades. Danny Rose and Kyle Naughton must be candidates for the worst left and right-back in the Premier League. They should've replaced them and bought a striker in the summer. But no. Levy out!

Sean: Everyone says that Daniel Levy needs to give managers time but how can he when we have clueless Tottenham fans ridiculing every decision the manager makes? Get behind the manager and we'll build something. Was always going to be a year of transition.

Erik Lamela takes the free-kick from Spurs, 20 yards out, but he can't keep it down and on target. If it's not a 'rabona' it's no good for Lamela.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Harry Kane is scissored by Carlos Sanchez. The teams have had a collective 'heads gone' moment. Etienne Capoue is replaced by Andros Townsend as Spurs go for it.

David McNaught:, external Is it silly red card day?

Gareth Whalley:, external I have to say that it was soft. It was the rest of the players who got Christian Benteke sent off, particularly Erik Lamela and the handbags.

Jay:, external This is really disappointing. I expected more drama and entertainment from Roy Keane following those handbags.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2014

Retribution from Andreas Weimann, who volleys Ryan Mason in the thighs near the touchline. A really poor tackle, and Weimann is booked for his troubles. May be more red cards on the agenda tonight yet...

"Christian Benteke raised his arm, and the referee was right on it. Benteke was frustrated with the challenge from Ryan Mason but he didn't need to react. Poor from him. Everything that has been good about Villa has come through Benteke, and now he will get a three-match ban as well. It was more of a push in the face, but the fourth official was three yards away from it."

Paul Lambert is not a happy man on the sidelines, the Villa bench are furious about that red card. That's a three-game ban on the cards too for Christian Benteke - who had been the best player on the pitch prior to that.
