    Former Scotland international Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at the KC Stadium

"All of Tottenham's best play has come through Christian Eriksen. When he gets in central areas, rather than being forced out wide, Spurs look like creating something and pose much more of an attacking threat."

If Tottenham are going to get a goal, it will have to come via a slip, deflection or misjudgement from Hull. They don't look capable of creating their own chances.

Both defences stretched close to breaking point. Hull's Ahmed Elmohamady gets back to head the ball into Allan McGregor's grateful gloves, before Nikica Jelavic's flick sets Robbie Brady loose and Eric Dier has to put on the after-burners to pull level and keep him from cutting in on goal at the other end.

Mark in Nottingham: Is there a squad anywhere in the land with more average yet overpriced players than Spurs? Mix n Match of ordinary.

Tom in Worcester: Can someone please explain the thinking being signing Federico Fazio? Surely they would have seen him run before signing him. Cart horse.

James in Belfast: Who will be sacked first, Brendan Rodgers or Mauricio Pochettino?

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Eric Dier goes into the book as he chops down Robbie Brady with a scissoring slide challenge.

Tottenham are irritated that a Tom Huddlestone tackle a few minutes before did not warrant the same punishment.

Very different result though. Harry Kane's shot thuds tamely into the wall.

Now then. Harry Kane is lining up a free-kick, central, 30 yards out and very similar territory to his winner against Aston Villa...

Tom Thrall:, external I honestly thought Spurs defence might improve without Younes Kaboul, but I forgot Spurs sold Michael Dawson. What a mess this is.

Ashley Williams:, external Baldini bought players with Bale money. A committee used Suarez money. Both teams struggling. managers aren't making signings.

Vinny Person:, external Dawson sold for Fazio? Sigurdsson sold for Lamela? Defoe sold for Soldado? And this is why we pay Baldini the millions.

Better from Spurs. Erik Lamela is alert to flick the ball onto Eric Dier and the full-back gets in a decent cross which Curtis Davies heads clear to the edge of the area.

Christian Eriksen picks up possession, wriggles for space to shoot and sees his effort deflected wide.

    match stats

    Possession? Over-rated.

Liverpool has more of the ball against Palace earlier today and Tottenham have certainly been second best so far at the KC.

    Former Scotland international Pat Nevin
BBC Radio 5 live at the KC Stadium

"Playing that high line Spurs look like they are going to get caught. They had two brilliant chances in a row for Hull. It's incredible that they are only 1-0 up. Will they live to regret not putting it to bed?"

  12. CLOSE!published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Tottenham should be 2-0 adrift as Hull miss two fine chances.

First Robbie Brady demands a good save out of Hugo Lloris with a snap-shot from 15 yards. Lloris has to be smart again to keep out a thumper from Gaston Ramirez shortly after and looks on relieved as Hatem Ben Arfa clumps the rebound over the top.

  13. Postpublished at 16:22 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

If you come that far as a goalkeeper, you have to claim the ball. Hugo Lloris, under pressure from Curtis Davies, drops a free-kick right at Gaston Ramirez' feet. Ben Davies bails out his team-mate with a block on the Uruguayan. It was a crucial one as well.

  14. Postpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Robbie Brady is peeved with Craig Pawson's call as the referee rules that he fouled Erik Lamela as he clambered past the Argentine. Tottenham are struggling to get in the game at the moment.

Gareth Murray:, external This not celebrating scoring against your former club is getting rather irritating. You're Jake Livermore not Denis Law!

Bright Eugene:, external Come on Jake, celebrate! That was a belter!

Dax Fullbrook:, external Steve Bruce/Hull 1-0 up and he is barking orders from his technical area. Mauricio Pochettino/Spurs 1-0 down and he sits there with his legs crossed.

Jake Livermore is one of three former Spurs with points to prove against their old club. Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone are the other Hull players who slapped high fives with their ex-team-mates before kick-off.

It has been a bright start from Hull for whom Gaston Ramirez has been pirouetting like a prima ballerina, keeping the ball and drawing a foul in the centre circle.

Jake Livermore does not celebrate against his old club, but he must take some personal satisfaction from that strike.

Tottenham clear the initial ball into the box through Federico Fazio, but fail to apply enough pressure on their former player. Livermore controls, gets his head up and drills a low shot into the bottom corner from 20-odd yards.

That is the sort of drive and directness that Tottenham could do with in their own midfield.

Ashley Williams:, external Sorry but nobody, including Steven Gerrard, can get on a pitch based on performances in previous seasons. He's not good enough now.

AF Slater:, external Liverpool fans claiming Brendan Rodgers as their saviour last season, are now calling for him to be sacked? Bonkers.

Thomas Renshaw:, external The team needs to step up. No one is creating space. Liverpool cannot beat teams that simply sit in front of them. Rethink.

  20. Postpublished at 16:06 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2014

Roberto Soldado gets away the game's first shot in anger. It is a decent connection, but dead central and Allan McGregor drops on it with time to spare.
