It doesn't look too cold though, with the pitch looking a lush green.

  4. Sam for Real Madrid?published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

While a few people have doubted Sam Allardyce's managerial capability over the years, the big man himself has always believed.

When he was Blackburn boss back in 2010, he insisted he was good enough to manage any of Europe's top clubs.

Allardyce, once a candidate for the England manager's job, said: "I would be more suited to Inter Milan or Real Madrid. It wouldn't be a problem for me to manage those clubs because I would win the double or the league every time."

    I can see it now...

  5. "Do you call him Garry?"published at 13:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

    Former England manager Graham Taylor
BBC Radio 5 live at the Boleyn Ground

"Garry Monk has come out of playing and has stepped into managing the same group of players. That happened to me at Lincoln many, many years ago. Do you call him Garry or do you call him boss? From a manager's view, you have to establish that role of you being in charge. He has done that marvellously well. He should be looked upon as an up and coming young manager who really does know what he is talking about."

  6. Master v the apprentice?published at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

Sam Allardyce and Garry Monk are at very different stages of their managerial careers but both seem to be getting things right.

West Ham's 'Big Sam' has managed over 400 Premier League matches but faces a manager 25 years his junior in Swansea's Monk.

With West Ham in fifth and Swansea eighth, both will be more than happy.

Will experience or youthful enthusiasm win out?

  7. Postpublished at 13:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is difficult to leave players out but there are a lot of them coming fit again and we have a big squad to choose from.

"If we can finish today with a victory then we are one of very few teams to have gone this week winning all three games. It would be a massive bonus for us and maintain our strong position in the league."

Tom, Kent: Very proud of being part of Canterbury Baptist's 2007 East Kent Churches League Cup win when I was 17. 5-4 win in a very exciting final. Our only bit of silverware until we managed to win the league last season!

It has been a couple of years to forget for West Ham striker Andy Carroll.

He appeared to have the world at his feet when he signed for Liverpool for £35m. Injuries have wrecked that.

Carroll now hasn't scored or assisted a goal in his last 10 West Ham league games, spanning 756 minutes.

    He starts today.

Only Cesc Fabregas, with 10 assists, has created more league goals than Sigurdsson in the Premier League this season (8), while no player has scored more Premier League goals in this calendar year than Wilfried Bony. You have been warned West Ham...

A win today and West Ham are up to third in the Premier League.

Swansea would jump over the Hammers into the top five with a win of their own.

Can either of these sides keep going and qualify for Europe? The Champions League?

  12. Postpublished at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

    Steve Bower
BBC Match of the Day commentator

"West Ham are one of the form teams, having lost only once in their last eight league matches. The Hammers were the sixth lowest scorers in the division last season but they've managed a dramatic improvement in the current campaign and have found the back of the net in 12 of their last 13 games.

"Gary Monk's seamless transition at Swansea is there for all to see. When you spend time in his company he is very measured and calm, and that's exactly how his team have performed so far this season.

"I watched them push Manchester City all the way at the Etihad Stadium recently and, even when they fell behind in the second half, there wasn't any panic and still a desire to pass the ball."

  14. Should Nigel Pearson apologise for fan altercation?published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

    MOTD2 Extra

Former Wales international John Hartson: "I worked with Nigel Pearson at West Brom. I don't think you can react, you have to let it go. Fans are on the beer before games, half drunk, saying things during games."

Independent football correspondent Sam Wallace: "Tim Sherwood is a columnist for the paper I work for and he said you can't react. The problem he had is when you are in those old grounds certain players would be effected by it. These are modern players and he was convinced they couldn't handle it."

Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray: "It's up to Nigel Pearson if he apologies or not. I personally don't see what he has got to apologise for. It's a high pressure job. Why should he take it?

No Premier League managers have been sacked this season - the first time we have got this far into a top-flight campaign without a manager leaving a club since 1996.

Former Wales international John Hartson: "I think that owners deserve credit for not sacking managers and showing patience, in particular at West Ham and Newcastle, there were fans displaying banners about Sam Allardyce and Alan Pardew, so credit to owners that they did not panic."

Independent football correspondent Sam Wallace: "Relegation is often what makes up the minds of boards - but if you look at the relegation battle then below Stoke you've got about six clubs and it could be any one of them. While it stays open and fluid then clubs tend to stay a bit calmer. Alan Irvine at West Brom is under pressure but he has had a good management career. The thing that goes against him is that he is not a big name and what does that mean? It would be a nonsense to get rid of him"

Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray: "We are in a bit of an anomaly, in terms of when the managers were appointed, Alan Irvine only went to West Brom in the summer, Steve Bruce has done a good job at Hull, Gus Poyet kept Sunderland up, nobody is cut adrift or gone from the equation."

In his regular BBC Sport column, Robbie Savage looked at which managers are most at risk of being the first to lose their jobs in the Premier League this season, and why we will not have to wait long to see the first top-flight managerial casualty.

Hull City goalkeeper Steve Harper, speaking to MOTD2 Extra: "We have conceded a few late goals, we have had a brutal run of away fixtures and we could easily have five or six more points than we have but sadly we have dropped into the bottom three. We are all a little disappointed, we have a tough game coming up at Chelsea but the table does not lie. We need to come through next weekend's fixture and look to build going into January.

"We need to all take responsibility - players and staff - the sooner we can get out of there the better. Last year we always stayed a win or two out of the bottom three but it is different this season.

"Playing in the final of the FA Cup last season was fantastic. Going out of Europe a cup run might be just what we need but we have work to do in the league before then."

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has said he chose to sign striker Andy Carroll over Swansea top scorer Wilfried Bony last summer.

"Allardyce sees Carroll every day but I am a huge fan of Bony, he backs in to players, loves to show his strength, and he gets on the end of crosses. It will be interesting to see how Swansea deal with Carroll though. There is a big role for Leon Britton and Ki Sung-yueng in terms of picking up the second balls, because at times Carroll can be unplayable."

  19. Bony or Carroll?published at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

Wilfried Bony or Andy Carroll? The answer would be pretty unanimous if given the chance to sign one of the two at the moment wouldn't it?

It wasn't so simple for West Ham in the summer of 2013, when they opted to pay a club-record £15m for Carroll from Liverpool instead of £12m for Bony from Vitesse Arnhem.

Since, Bony has scored six league goals for Swansea this season after 16 last time round, while Carroll has struggled with injury, scoring just twice in 19 league appearances.

Plenty of time for Carroll to turn things around mind.

  20. Gold's surprisepublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 7 December 2014

More from West Ham joint chairman David Gold, speaking to BBC Sport: "We didn't expect to be in this position, I have to be honest with you. Am I surprised? I am delighted that is for sure, long may it last.

Proof that it is wise to stand by managers? "The stats say that clubs that get rid of managers actually improve their position but it has been tradition for David Sullivan and myself, we have always stood by our people and our manager. We take a lot of time choosing our manager and give him every chance to succeed. That is exactly what Sam has done. Sam has this reputation of being a long ball manager but the truth is you play a style of football depending on the players you have available."
