David Mannix will be trying to help Warrington to FA Cup glory against Gateshead today and the former Liverpool player has been looking back on a career which did not progress in the way many thought it would.

"I was Liverpool's main player and Wayne was Everton's," Mannix told the Independent., external "I'd back myself against anyone. But he had what I had plus some.

"I was strong for my age; he was stronger. Wayne was the only lad that I came across who was better than me."

Now though, he says: "I block out the memories. The positive ones lead to thinking about the negative and I'm not ready to deal with them just yet."

Times are also changing at Leicester, but not in the same way as at West Ham.

As West Ham were dropping down the Premier League table with defeat after defeat back in April, the Foxes were marching towards the Championship title.

But it has not been a pleasant return to the Premier League. Nine games without a win has seen them sink to the bottom of the standings, while manager Nigel Pearson got into a spat with a fan after the 3-1 midweek defeat to Liverpool, saying fans "should stay at home" if they cannot recognise the efforts of the team.

How they could do with a win at Aston Villa today.

There's no doubt times are changing at West Ham - it was only at the start of this year that they were accused of "playing football from the 19th century" by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

Now, though, they have developed an impressive attacking swagger thanks, in the main, to the exciting additions of Alex Song in midfield and forwards Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho. All three are in contention for today's game.

There is nothing false about the position West Ham find themselves in.

Sat in the stands at West Brom back in April, watching their side slump to a fourth successive defeat, a group of frustrated West Ham fans unfurled a banner saying 'Fat Sam Killing West Ham'...

...fast forward eight months and things are very different. Seven wins from West Ham's opening 14 games means, should they beat Swansea today, they will move up to third in Premier League. I repeat. West Ham. Third.
