So, this is the first time we'll see Chelsea in action since Jose Mourinho claimed their was a campaign against his side.

Mourinho was angry at referee Anthony Taylor for not awarding a penalty during the 1-1 draw at Southampton. Midfielder Cesc Fabregas was booked for diving after going down in the area under Matt Targett's challenge.

After the game Mourinho told BBC Sport: "The media, commentators, other managers are all doing it [putting pressure on referees]."

"Chelsea finished 2014 leading the Premier League for the fourth time, and they've gone on to win the title on the three previous occasions.

"They're also unbeaten in nine league meetings with Tottenham, who've won just four home top-flight matches this season, scoring a mere seven goals in their last nine.

"So you can understand why some bookies rate Spurs as the worst team to back for a New Year's Day home Premier League victory."

Tottenham make three changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Manchester United last time out, with Danny Rose in for Ben Davies, Nabil Bentaleb replacing Benjamin Stambouli and Kyle Walker in for Vlad Chiriches.

Chelsea, who could lose their place at the top of the Premier League, also change three. In come Cesar Azpilicueta, Oscar and Willian, with Filipe Luis, John Obi Mikel and Andre Schurrle sitting out.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Walker, Fazio, Vertonghen, Rose; Bentaleb, Mason; Chadli, Eriksen, Townsend; Kane.

Chelsea XI: Courtois; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Diego Costa.

But did The Special One send a 'Happy New Year' text message to his old midfield lynchpin Frank Lampard? If so, he might be recalling it after watching the now-Manchester City midfielder bail his new side out once again.

Three points against Tottenham this evening are essential now City have wiped out the dark Blues' lead at the top of the table with this afternoon's 3-2 victory over Sunderland.

How do football managers spend their New Year's Eve?

Do they drive into the city centre and take in the festivities with their families while their players are safely tucked up in bed? Or do they have a nice bottle of claret at home, watch Jools Holland then walk the dog while the fireworks are exploding above their head?

I'd wager it was the latter for Jose Mourinho last night.
