BBC Sport's Ed Harry in Malabo: Now Gervinho has switched to the left Ivory Coast have gone up a gear. Just looked out the back - still A LOT of fans streaming onto the site and long queues for Ebola screening. This ground will be full by half-time - they're missing the superstars of Ivory Coast's forward line trying to do what they do so well for their clubs.

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

A sweeping break, led by Gervinho, almost ends with the ex-Arsenal man opening the scoring. His powerful burst down the left picks out Wilfried Bony but his miscue comes back to Gervinho who lashes a first-time shot from 12 yards, drawing a brilliant tip onto the bar by Naby Yattara.

One of the saves of the tournament so far.

A first corner for Ivory Coast arrives as a cross is deflected behind but a low delivery is easily cleared. The pace is timid here.

Lanfia Camara in Guinea's midfield plays a pass more at home at Twickenham than on a football field. An up and under from right to left. Wouldn't fancy putting a head on that. It orbited the sun.

Borussia Monchengladbach's Ibrahima Traore is Guinea's go-to man and he races down the right to bend in a cross. Enthusiasm is keeping the underdogs on top early on. Ivory Coast have passed it a little better in recent minutes but Wilfried Bony sticks his back side out to hold off a challenge and that is seen as backing in by the referee.

Kenny Dalglish would not have had a career if he couldn't use his body like that.

Boubacar Fofana, wearing sweat bands on each wrist like a Guinean Tim Henman is on the end of another corner but his header looks more like a defensive clearance than deft flick at goal. High and wide but encouraging for Guinea.

    Yaya ToureImage source, Yaya Toure

BBC Sport's John Bennett, external Over 100 caps in 11 years, today Yaya Toure starts his 6th AFCON. One last chance to win a title with Ivory Coast?

  7. Postpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

A corner for Guinea finds a near-post runner but he cannot guide an effort on goal. Guinea have never beaten Ivory Coast but they certainly don't look intimidated by the record books early on.

Guinea want to set their stall out early on and show they are not intimidated by this Ivory Coast side, so there is nothing like a good honest bit of competitive play to set the tone.

Yaya Toure is on the receiving end as a bouncing ball sees an opposing player challenge him around the shoulder. Needless to say, that is a high foot in anyone's language and the free-kick is given.

As a caveat, not sure if these skin-tight tops suit Yaya.

Andrew Priestley:, external Excited to see how the Ivory Coast perform, they're certainly the favourites on paper. The Yaya/Bony link will be crucial.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:02 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

So here we go then. Ivory Coast, packed with Champions-League level talent, take on a side expected to finish bottom of the group.

    No pressure lads...

Serge Aurier, the Paris St-Germain defender, is deep in prayer before kick-off as the teams switch ends after the coin toss. The pitch, on the face of it, looks the best we've seen in four days so far.

Now for a poignant minute of silence to honour those lost to the Ebola virus in west Africa. Guinea know of this tragedy only too well and you can read more on why lower down in this live text.

The players walk out on the pitch, Ivory Coast - wonderfully nicknamed the Elephants - stand all in orange for their national anthem.

Guinea's anthem kicks in and without sounding cruel, their captain Ibrahima Traore looks like a competition winner stood next to their goalkeeper. He looks tiny.

  13. International stars vs consistent failurepublished at 15:53 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

So why were Ivory Coast favourites with the bookmakers ahead of this competition?

They were firm favourites for each of the last four African Nations Cups but fell short every time and qualified despite a 4-1 defeat in Cameroon and a surprise 4-3 home loss at the hands of Democratic Republic of Congo.

They have players with rounded experience though as 22 of the 23-man party play outside of Africa. Only midfielder Roger Assale plies his trade there, with DR Congo-based side Mazembe.

  17. Favourites have little to showpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

Ivory Coast may well be the pre-tournament favourites with the bookies, but they have only ever won this tournament once, so pedigree at Afcon is lacking.

They lifted the trophy 23 years ago after an 11-10 penalty shootout success against Ghana. Tony Yeboah was on target for the losing side. We all love Tony don't we?

Guinea: N Yattara; Issiaga, Pogba, F Camara, Sankoh, N Keita, B Fofana, Constant, Conte, Traore, M Yattara.

Did you know? Guinea lost their only warm-up fixture for this tournament 5-2 to Senegal a week ago.

  19. Out with the old...published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard says he has struck a balance between the old and the new for this tournament.

The likes of Yaya Toure, Gervinho and Wilfried Bony remain in their 23-man squad, but a few including the 123-time capped Didier Zokora are no longer part of the party.

Renard says: "It is a transition between the old generation, which had some fantastic players - only some of who remain, and a lot of young players. Only 13 players were at the last World Cup, which was only six months ago. It is a new squad. Of course the base of this team has some experience but we also need to find new players."

  20. More virus screening...published at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

    Malabo

BBC's Alex South in Malabo: Same problem different day. Fans waiting up to an hour in 40 degree heat as the Ebola screening process again holds things up. Supporters getting a bit hot and bothered and I've seen one or two arguments already break out but again the Police are quick to try and diffuse the situation.

It's not helping that you have four different sets of travelling fans all descending on the same place at the same time. The tension is building and it has little to do with the football.

Estadio Nuevo Malabo will host both games today back-to-back.
