"That would have been one of the goals of the season. Craig Gardner hit it so hard, Adrian was diving after the ball came back off the bar. What a strike. But West Brom have had so much time and space around the West Ham penalty area, under no pressure at all. The West Ham defenders don't seem to know when to break out and close down. If West Brom get the next goal, you'd have to go an awfully long way to make a case for the visitors winning it."

  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 13:23 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Oh what a goal this would have been! Craig Gardner fancies a go from well over 35 yards, you can almost sense the groans from the home fans who anticipate seeing it sail over, but it smashes against the crossbar. Fantastic effort.

Will Strange: Ideye once again. He will be crucial for West Brom now. The new Lukaku right there.

Mark Daws: 100% handball from Dawson in the build-up to the West Brom goal - the only way to get beyond Cresswell!

Nico Lennon: Kevin Nolan was a very lucky boy to not concede a penalty after Ideye's lovely piece of skill to nutmeg him. Clumsy.

Saido Berahino may not be on it, but the football from his team-mates has been lovely to watch at times in this half. Quick, one-touch passing ending with bursts forward in an effort to force an opening. One comes when a loose ball falls to Stephane Sessegnon on the edge of the area, he sees a gap and has a go at goal, but is leaning back all the time and scoops it well over.

"Saido Berahino's touch has not been there so far. He's been the one West Brom player who hasn't quite been at it - he's looked a bit lethargic at times. I just think the way he moves invites scepticism doesn't it, but we know he can score goals."

Now West Ham do get it wide and Carl Jenkinson launches a cross into the area, but it fails to find the head of a team-mate and the Baggies clear.

West Ham have survived that spell of pressure and have their foot on the ball at the moment. They seem determined to drive a path through the middle but are just hitting a brick wall. Where's the width?

"Pace and power. Brown Ideye just lets the ball run and he is so is quick, Cheikhou Kouyate does well to track him. He wants the ball all the time. But has he changed that much as player since the beginning of the season? Or is it because what has required has changed?"

West Ham cannot handle Brown Ideye. He lets a pass run beyond him, and powers beyond Cheikhou Kouyate, with his storming run eventually earning the hosts a corner.

To think, Ideye was seemingly set to leave West Brom in January and Carlton Cole, currently sat on the West Ham bench, was being lined up as his replacement. Ideye looks every bit a £10m striker at the moment.

"I wasn't sure about this West Ham formation at the start of the game and it has done nothing since to convince me it is a system that fits. There are several players who don't look comfortable. West Brom, they know their set-up, they know what is required and look by far the better side at the moment.

"A strong penalty shout there for the home side too. It looked as though Brown Ideye was brought down to me."

  12. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

A penalty shout for West Brom as the subsequent corner is picked up by Brown Ideye on the left. The striker, brimming with confidence, uses some fancy footwork to knock the ball beyond Kevin Nolan. He tries to recover, Ideye goes down but no penalty.

West Brom are flying and they go close to a quick second as James Morrison smacks a fierce effort from outside the area, Adrian pushes it up in the air and then palms it over the bar. Safety first and the Hammers are rattled.

"Craig Dawson got a lucky bounce off Aaron Creswell, but he did well with the cross, he took his time and Brown Ideye was there to poke it home. I'd give the striker the benefit of the doubt there, in terms of offside. A well-worked goal by West Brom, and Ideye goes from villain to hero. That is the life of the striker."

Advantage West Brom and brilliant work by Craig Dawson. He brings a long ball under control and knocks it beyond Aaron Cresswell, runs into the area and crosses low for Brown Ideye to stab in. Three in three for the striker.

"Stewart Downing and one or two other West Ham players who were on the ball must be thinking: 'What has happened there?' Downing looks particularly confused, it was in a perfect position for him. But Enner Valencia's shot was never coming down - there just wasn't enough space to work with."

  17. Postpublished at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

West Ham earn another free-kick dead centre of goal, right on the edge of the D. Enner Valencia takes it and hits it with real venom but, fortunately for West Brom, it powers over the bar.

  18. Postpublished at 13:01 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Good work from Saido Berahino as he clips the ball over the foot of James Tomkins and runs towards the goal. He tries to square for Stephane Sessegnon, but his pass is cut out by a West Ham defender.

Seb: On the opening day of the season I travelled to Molineux with a couple of mates to watch my beloved Norwich play Wolves. We spent the evening in Birmingham, where I started chatting to one of the barmaids on Broad Street. I wooed her by teaching her the offside rule with bottles of ketchup and mayonnaise. We've since moved in together and six months later she finds herself spending our first Valentine's Day together watching Norwich v Wolves at Carrow Road.

West Ham look to be targeting Craig Dawson as the weak link in West Brom's side as a couple of balls are pumped up field for Diafra Sakho to chase. Dawson reads things well on both occasions, keeping Sakho in his pocket, for now.
