"Wonderful play from Chris Brunt, he pulled the ball back to where several West Brom players were waiting, and Craig Gardner came round the back to hit it just wide of the post. For the penalty appeal, there's no way it was a penalty for me."

  2. CLOSE!published at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

Best chance of the game so far as Craig Gardner has a pop with a fine strike from a cross, just wide.

  3. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 12:54 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

West Brom go up the other end of the pitch and have half a shout for a penalty when James Morrison's shot deflects onto the arm of Kevin Nolan. A few shouts from the home fans, but half hearted at best. No penalty.

"It was never ever was going to threaten that one. It just kept going, it never came down.

"Tony Pulis coming here just fits. West Brom have always had a bit of a soft underbelly, but Pulis has organised them to harness the ability and work rate they have always been known for."

A chance for West Ham as a smart ball by Stewart Downing sends Mark Noble away, he is pulled back and the Hammers have a free-kick on the edge of the area. Aaron Cresswell steps up to take it, lifting the ball over the wall but it fails to come down and fizzes well over the bar.

Both managers seemed to suggest they didn't fancy a replay and it looks like they have set their respective sides up to attack from the outset. The Hammers are in possession at the moment, trying to prise open the Baggies' defence, but no chances as yet.

"I'd say both teams are really going to go for this. There is no excuse for any of the teams left in this competition not to fancy themselves to win it. You probably wont get a better time to go and progress. I expect the ground to fill up, I don't think we'll be short of a good crowd here today. There are plenty of pockets in the stadium that are empty, but they look like parts of the ground where people normally sit. I've been stuck in traffic on my way here before."

The referee blows his whistle and the first game of the FA Cup fifth round is under way.

  9. Postpublished at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

The players are out on a pretty pristine looking Hawthorns pitch. The crowd has swelled but still far from full, hopefully not too many people still battling to get there after traffic problems.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "Injuries have been a major part of our disruption in the last few weeks but we are still managing to get good teams out and achieving results. This is our third game in six days and unfortunately we lost Andy Carroll and Matt Jarvis, but we have a very good first 11 out."

On his team starting to shed a "long ball" reputation: "There has always been a lot more to my repertoire, it is a repertoire of a broad base of intelligence in football to extract the best qualities out of my players."

  12. Postpublished at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live about Brown Ideye, who was linked with a move away in January: "The lovely thing is the window is closed, so all the nonsense surrounding the window goes. Brown Ideye can concentrate on his football, Bobby is a great lad. For him to get two goals in his last two games is a big thing for his confidence."

Matt Tucker: I'm not going to see my girlfriend until late evening today, as she is a Bournemouth fan and their game against Huddersfield gets priority over me, a Watford fan. Tensions rising at the top of the Championship... My kind of girl who puts football first though!

  14. Postpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

West Brom boss Tony Pulis, speaking to BT Sport: "They are getting to understand what we need and what we want but this is going to be a tough one. We did not have the window we hoped to have and we are a little soft and short in some areas.

"Sessegnon came on the other day and played well so he comes in. We are both desperate to do well in the FA Cup. It is two clubs that are going to go toe-to-toe. I've experienced it once before, getting to the final with Stoke and it was wonderful for everyone concerned and if we get a bit of luck we could do the same here."

There are still a fair few empty seats at The Hawthorns as the players go through their warm-ups. Are the traffic disruptions going to hit the attendance figure for the first game?

  16. Postpublished at 12:19 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2015

The two sides have faced each other six times in the FA Cup in the past - and it's the men from the east end who have the happier record.

West Ham have progressed on four occasions, with West Brom knocking them out just once. West Ham also beat the Albion on their way to their last FA Cup win in 1980.

The two sides in action in our early kick-off have plenty of FA Cup pedigree between them.

Albion have won it five times - though not since 1968 - while the Hammers have lifted the cup three times, but not since 1980. Trevor Brooking and all that.
