"Sunderland are losing the battle in midfield at the moment. That is where they are coming unstuck. Bradford City have got more bodies in there and that is where they are getting their joy."

Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka recalls Tomas Mejias, the goalkeeper who performed so well against Manchester City in the previous round. Ben Gibson, Ryan Fredericks, George Friend and Kenneth Omuero come in to form a new back four, while Lee Tomlin is back in midfield and Patrick Bamford returns up front.

Middlesbrough XI: Mejias, Fredericks, Omeruo, Gibson, Friend, Leadbitter, Clayton, Adomah, Tomlin, Kike, Bamford.

Not from there! Adam Johnson wastes a promising Sunderland move by shooting from 35 yards. Never going in in a month of Sundays.

  4. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Much better from Sunderland, and they work a neat triangle down the left which ends up at the feet of left-back Patrick van Aanholt. He hits it hard and low, it's deflected off Rory McArdle and keeper Ben Williams makes a really good save.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hands a debut to Brazilian centre-back Gabriel Paulista, while Wojciech Szczesny returns in goal. Calum Chambers replaces Hector Bellerin at right-back and Mathieu Flamini comes in to defensive midfield at the expense of Francis Coquelin.

Fuming. Gus Poyet is livid on the sidelines. His face is an image of fury. If like me you worked all Valentine's Day and didn't arrange anything special for your partner, you'll recognise it.

It's a much more even game now, Sunderland attacking regularly. But they haven't hurt Bradford yet. The hosts will be delighted with this fist-half showing so far.

"It is difficult for Sunderland to get good balls into the penalty area. Bradford are first to every second ball and every knock down. It's because of the way they have set up, as I mentioned before."

Bradford impressed many with the quality of the goals they scored at Chelsea, and put together another brilliant passage of play which ends with Billy Knott seeing a shot blocked. It all started when Billy Clarke picked out a raking crossfield ball. Clarke is playing in the hole and causing Sunderland no end of issues.

"That passage of play shows us that Bradford do have technical players. But most of the play takes place in Sunderland's third as that is where they are when they get the ball."

It's an excellent game now, both sides throwing caution to the wind. Why not? As Bradford may say.

The hosts go close to doubling their lead, Billy Clarke again shooting on sight, a dipping left-foot strike from 15 yards which forces Vito Mannone into action. Clarke skipped past John O'Shea so easily in the build-up.

Much better from Sunderland, they've woken up now. Adam Johnson does well to juggle the ball on the edge of the box and tee up Seb Larsson - he can hit them and he does, but the Bradford defence get a big block on the ball and divert it over the top.

  17. Postpublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Steven Fletcher was way too hesitant. Perhaps the sign of a man who hasn't scored since November.

Better from the visitors in blue though.

"Steven Fletcher just took too long. I think he thought he was offside, he decided to take an extra touch and he allowed Rory McArdle to get back in on him.

"It was big call, a massive call, for a penalty but as you say the ball diverted away with a touch from the defender."

  19. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 February 2015

Sunderland suddenly come alive - and they should score!

Seb Larsson shoots from 25 yards, he scuffs it but right into the path of Steven Fletcher. He kills it 10 yards out, takes his time - too long really - and as he tries to shoot he goes down under a challenge from Rory McArdle.

Sunderland are convinced it's a penalty! And it probably was. But really, Fletcher should have scored. He waited far too long. Shoot!

To add to the equation, Fletcher was offside when the ball came to him...

"Sometimes with the pitch - and I know it has been well documented - you do need to play a style that suits you. But Bradford also have players that when the ball gets up to the final third can play really good football."
