A big win for Liverpool. Their chances of a top-four finish are right back on track.
Jake Del Toro: Southampton have been unlucky here but despite dominating they have failed to score, that's not unlucky.
Rian Hoskins: Graziano Pelle holds the ball up well but needs to start scoring again soon as Saints are struggling. The worry is that they can't turn to anyone else.

FOUR MINUTES added on.
Southampton free-kick, scuffed against Raheem Sterling in the wall. Maya Yoshida can't get a shot away, it comes back out to go back in and Morgan Schneiderlin hooks an overhead effort at Simon Mignolet. Saints just not at it today.

"Daniel Sturridge has made a massive difference since coming on for Liverpool. Just having somebody who can get hold of it up top, somebody who knows how to play that role, has made Liverpool far more dangerous."
Daniel Sturridge again glides away from Jose Fonte and gets a shot in this time, a low curler which is well held on the greasy surface by Fraser Forster. Liverpool easing to a good away win.

"It's been a frustrating afternoon for Southampton. In the moments they have played well they have had absolutely no reward. But in the second half they have completely run out of ideas and quality. They're not quite good enough to make the top four on this showing."
Glen Johnson goes down awkwardly after making a challenge, looks to be his shoulder in distress, but he'll be OK. Jordan Henderson then gets booked for what looked like an elbow to the Huddlestones of Eljero Elia as he slipped over. Ouch!
Ryan: Southampton's attack has been poor for months now. Many attacking players desperately lacking form, luck has papered over it.
Dave: Set up nicely for a Saints comeback and 2-2 finish? Last gasp equaliser?
Nasim Chowdhury: For the rest of the game Brendan Rodgers can concentrate on scouting new players...

Southampton could have gone third with a win this afternoon but instead it's Liverpool on the move, they will be a point behind the Saints and just three behind third-placed Arsenal. Moving on up.

"Brendan Rodgers deserves huge credit for turning Liverpool's season around. A huge test of his managerial skills, passed emphatically."
Southampton sub Dusan Tadic thuds a free-kick through the wall and into the chest of Simon Mignolet. Saints need a Danny Rose mishit and a soft Harry Kane penalty from here on in
They had one last year Roger, he's on Liverpool's bench. When is Jay Rodriguez coming back too?
Roger H: Saints have dominated most teams, had a lot of chances but fail to convert. Need a 20-goal-a- season goal striker.

"The weather plays a bit of a part in Southampton's poor defending, but Raheem Sterling has put the game to bed. We said Southampton had the space to get back into the game, but they've lacked quality and ideas. The longer the game has gone on the less they have looked like scoring."
Two shots, two goals for Liverpool! But they are given two or three helping hands from Southampton on the way. Morgan Schneiderlin starts it by playing a careless square ball straight to Alberto Moreno. He drives on and crosses from the left, it's poor though and should be easily dealt with.
However Matty Targett slips as he goes to clear with his wrong foot and can only cough it up to Raheem Sterling 15 yards out. He side-foots in a shot which takes a nick on its way, and even then Fraser Forster might save it. He doesn't. Two nil.

"Daniel Sturridge went round Jose Fonte as if the Southampton defender just didn't exist. But I have no idea why he did not shoot there, it was an unbelievable chance. Southampton look like they are running out of ideas now."
Brilliant stuff from Daniel Sturridge, he does Jose Fonte with a bodyswerve of Chris Waddle proportions, just ghosts past him. He goes to pull the trigger but Maya Yoshida makes a cracking follow-up tackle and clears.
Into the last 20 minutes of what has turned into a bit of a trial.
It's all too central, Southampton trying to thread the eye of a needle with six or seven men inside a 20x20 yard box. Without Andres Iniesta or Lionel Messi it's hard to score playing like that.
