BBC Radio 5 live at St Mary's Stadium

"Southampton will consider themselves a little bit unlucky. Certainly they should have had at least one penalty, and they've conceded from an absolute 'worldy'. Every ball they've put into the Liverpool box has caused all sorts of panic.

"It hasn't always been fluent but it has been an intriguing game. It's very open, and you feel there is an awful lot more to come from both sides, if only we could dredge up a little bit more quality."

Simon Mignolet is all over the place as he comes for a cross and somehow the Saints can't force the ball in. An excellent end, and a fine start to the half at St Mary's.

"At first glance I didn't think Simon Mignolet was out of the box, and if it does hit his hand, it's come off his body. I certainly don't think Eljero Elia does enough there. He never looked like he knew how he was going to finish. In the end he just played it straight at Mignolet."

Is that handball?! Simon Mignolet charges down an effort from Eljero Elia outside the box - and referee Kevin Friend says play on. Friend was yards and yards away to be honest, it was a quick ball over the top. The goalkeeper is a lucky boy.

And then another penalty appeal for the Saints as the ball hits Emre Can on the hand. Nothing given...

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16:59 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

Biggest cheer of the day as former Saint Dejan Lovren turns sinner with a slide in on James Ward-Prowse and is booked. The home fans don't like their former defender much.

  7. Player reactionpublished at 16:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

    Leicester striker David Nugent:

"To come from 1-0 down to take the lead and then concede a goal like that at the end is tough. Our away form has been decent and we wanted the three points but at a place like Goodison we will take the point.

"Nobody expected us to get three points, but to concede like that it's a killer.

"I have dreamed of scoring at Goodison Park and I'm made up for the team. We will take a point and go from here.

"I have been with Nigel Pearson for three-and-a-half years and he has been different class. All the players are right behind him."

Nothing like a bit of exaggeration eh Isaac?

We've not had a shot since the eighth minute. But those eight minutes were great.

Isaac Wolofar: Oh dear! That's easily the most obvious penalty ever denied in the history of the game. Both of Raheem Sterling's feet were swept away!

Luke: The difference between Liverpool's penalty claim and Southampton's is that Fonte took the ball first, Liverpool players did not.

"Any ball in to the box and Liverpool have looked worried by the likes and Graziano Pelle and Jose Fonte. But Southampton are lacking width. Out wide is where you are going to get your space against Liverpool, but the home side are not exploiting that."

Jose Fonte's tackle on Raheem Sterling was quite remarkable really. He got the ball with one leg and cleaned out the forward with his other one. A buy one, get one free offering.

The home fans - some of them - are starting to get on the case of striker Graziano Pelle. They want more from him. The Italian may look magnificent but he hasn't scored in the league since the end of December.

"A good tackle that one from Jose Fonte. If you look at the reaction of the players, they didn't complain at all."

    Leicester manager Nigel Pearson:

"It feels a bit like a defeat at the moment because their equaliser came so late but we forced the issue right to the end.

"We frustrated Everton and their fans to a certain extent as we played with a lot of discipline and we looked dangerous.

"What we need is more wins and we will get them if we perform to that standard. We have put in some good performances that have not yielded the points.

"The fashion of the result is the hardest thing. What we have to do is look forward we can't dwell on this. We have very capable players and we have to start turning the performances into results.

"I can't do too much about what is being speculated. i always do my job as conscientiously as I can and I will continue to do that until I am told otherwise. I'm committed to the job and that's all you need to know.

"All managers work in situations where things can change quickly. I have always been very supportive of our owners, and they have of me, and they will make decisions that are right for this football club."

  14. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16:48 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

Is that a penalty now? Southampton had two good shouts in the opening stages and now Raheem Sterling has his legs swept away as he tries a neat turn inside the box.

On first glimpse it looks a nailed-on spot-kick, but the replays suggest that Jose Fonte got plenty of the ball first. Who'd be a referee? Not me. Nothing given.

Chris Welander: Steve Claridge comparing Liverpool's style with Manchester United? (see 20 mins) Liverpool far more fluent with a manager who has adapted his tactics well.

Immanuel C-Bankes: Comparing United's and Liverpool's systems is ridiculous. Liverpool playing great football and looking solid, bar this game. United the opposite.

Joe Young: Playing Emre Can at left centre-back against Nathaniel Clyne and Eljero Elia isn't going to end well.

Liverpool have shipped 62% of their goals in the second half, the highest proportion in the top flight. So there's no reason for Southampton to panic just yet.

Simon Mignolet flaps at a free-kick but the Saints can't profit and Liverpool eventually clear.

Emre Can gets away with a clumsy tackle on the sideline as Southampton look to build some pressure again. Can they force an equaliser?

    Former Portsmouth striker Steve Claridge
BBC Radio 5 live at St Mary's Stadium

"Liverpool looked all over the place for the first 10 minutes but they're looking far more assured in possession now. Southampton have now started to become a little bit scrappy and scruffy. I'd like them to start getting the ball down a bit more. They should have had a penalty earlier though."

    Everton

    Everton manager Roberto Martinez:

"The role we had to play was to be patient and not to be frustrated with our play as we had to break down a solid unit. Getting the first goal was important but once we got that we are disappointed as we could have defended a little bit better.

"It is a fantastic sign to have the character we have shown to get a point out of the game. The character was very pleasing on a very difficult day.

"The good aspect of the squad we have is that we have players with different abilities. Darron Gibson has a phenomenal forward pass and is someone we could help open them up.

"Christian Atsu is very agile and can run between the lines and that freshness allowed us to open Leicester City up and get the goals.

"Drawing games is frustrating but as a team we gave everything today. It's been a demanding week and we need to learn about coming back from Europe, but that is not going to happen overnight.

"We need to defend well in the box because at two moments in the match we conceded soft goals. Everyone is in the scrap until you get 40 points, that's the way the league works. Our focus is to get as high up the league as we can.

"When you come back from Europe - you have seen with other teams around - it can be very difficult."
