Shaun, Scotland: Liverpool's defensive set-up is all wrong. Lazar Markovic at left wing-back, taking Emre Can to left centre-back when he has been one of our main assets at right centre-back. Only a matter of time before Southampton score, get a penalty or there's a sending off for Liverpool defender.

You're a brave man comparing those two sides Steve...

Twice in a few seconds Liverpool almost pick a way through the Saints defence, but on both occasions the final pass goes astray. Raheem Sterling, after an anonymous opening 15 minutes, is starting to get on the ball.

"It's been a strange game so far. Southampton have played the majority of the football, but Liverpool have the lead. I think Liverpool are a bit like Manchester United in that the results they have had almost seem in spite of the system they play. I don't think Brendan Rodgers' tactics suits his players at all."

Simon Mignolet comes to claim a dangerous inswinging corner, he's been a new man since his fiancee sorted his head out. Southampton controlling the ball nicely and bossing the game with 68% of the ball.

It's all gone to plan bar one screamer from 30 yards from Philippe Coutinho...

Did I say this won't end 0-0 after Liverpool had already scored? What an idiot.

I meant that this won't end 1-0. More goals to come for sure. Both teams look as secure as the Greek economy.

Before the game Ronald Koeman said new boy Filip Djuricic would add quality and he's been a menace so far. He ticks all the boxes really, fast, strong, direct, dangerous.

His latest act sees him hacked down by Lazar Markovic, free-kick in a dangerous area.

Peter Bartlett: Don't bother running the February Goal of the Month just give it to Philippe Coutinho now!

In the Usborne book of footballing equations - foreword by John Motson - bad defending = exciting games.

So I for one am happy to see the Liverpool backline all over the shop so far. Graziano Pelle has won two headers so far and both times Saints have been clean in on goal. Could easily have had two penalties.

    This won't end 0-1. Definitely.

"That is a penalty for me. The first Southampton penalty appeal wasn't one, but the second is a 100% penalty.

"The Liverpool defence is absolutely all over the place. An excellent save by Simon Mignolet from Eljero Elia's shot but in the first five minutes Liverpool's defending has been shocking. There are huge gaps in between the lines."

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

More excitement in four minutes than a whole season at Villa Park. Another good penalty shout for the hosts and again it's Filip Djuricic who sprints in behind, Joe Allen gets a piece of him, the ball wriggles out to Eljero Elia, and his strike is kicked out by Simon Mignolet. Brilliant save!

"What a strike from Philippe Coutinho. We are talking just under the bar, Coutinho whipped it in as if he was taking a free-kick and it flew in. Fraser Forster had no chance. Brilliant."

Oooohhh what a goal! That is special!

I thought his goal at Bolton was pretty good the other week, but this is on another level. Philippe Coutinho collects Lazar Markovic's pass, looks up and curls an inch-perfect shot from 25 yards, right into the top corner, just kissing the crossbar on the way in. You don't save those.

"I think Filip Duricic is looking to go down. He gets across Emre Can, so I don't know why he didn't carry on. There was no reason for Duricic to go down. It looked a little bit too easy for me."

  15. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2015

Almost a penalty inside 25 seconds! Manchester City got one yesterday and Southampton could have had one here! New signing Filip Djuricic gets in behind and Emre Can has an arm on his shoulder - referee Kevin Friend waves him away!

Dejan Lovren is booed with every touch by the way.

I thought Leicester were excellent away at Arsenal the other week and they played well again today. Playing well and going down though? They stay bottom.
