More from Chelsea captain John Terry: "We're delighted to win it. It means a lot to us, I thought we deserved the trophy today. It means a great deal to us all. There is no better feeling, believe me. Spurs like to press, they're a good side but I thought we dominated today.

"It is the start of something. We always said we had to win trophies to be up there with the great sides. Back in 2004 and 2005 it inspired us and kicked us on, hopefully this will do the same. We've got a great squad, with some great young players, and hungry and experienced players too. It's a great mix."

On Liverpool beating Manchester City earlier this afternoon: "Did they win? Listen it is great result for us but our focus was fully on the game today."

More from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "You are never too old to celebrate, you don't have enough trophies not to celebrate. For me this is 24 but I am like a kid with the first one. Now I blow kisses to everyone that is happy because we are happy, but this is quick, there is no time for big celebrations, let's go home. I have the hat-trick of League Cups and it is nice to have it. Museum, history, but we have to go on and chase another one.

"Finals are not to play, finals are to play strategically well, for the players to feel comfortable on the pitch. Without Nemanja Matic we had to find again a certain balance, we did that and the team was really compact, they had control of the game really well."

On Manchester City's defeat away to Liverpool in the Premier League earlier today: "It is better for us that City loses the match but I told the players this morning we have enough with the final. Forget the Premier League and concentrate on the big final."

Chelsea FC:, external Jose said Nemanja Matic made the speech in the dressing room before the game, and used his pain to motivate his team-mates.

  7. The new Desailly?published at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2015

Apparently Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has called Kurt Zouma "our new Marcel Desailly" in the post match news conference.

High praise indeed and he isn't the first to liken the Frenchman to his compatriot. Read here.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, speaking to Sky Sports: "For games like this you want your best players to perform and Diego Costa did it very well. We are still in the race for two big trophies so hopefully we can make it."

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech: "Every cup win is special. You always want to win the finals, you never want to lose in a final. We are delighted we beat a very good Tottenham side. Hopefully we will add more trophies for Jose Mourinho and for the club. Winning trophies in the middle of the season boosts confidence for upcoming games."

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba: "The most important thing today was the trophy. It is another step forward. We have this confidence that we lost a little bit in previous weeks, we have it back and hopefully we can do well for the rest of the season."

Chelsea striker Diego Costa: "I hope it is the first trophy of many. I feel very proud and happy. The second goal? Of course [I scored it]. Who else?"

  10. Manager reactionpublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2015

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino: "Maybe Kyle Walker's injury had an effect on the second goal - but I thought it was unlucky.

"Firstly I want to congratulate Chelsea on their victory and also to congratulate my players - they played very well.

"We fought until the final moment and that was important. We have a very young group and it was a first final for a lot of our players."

  11. Player reactionpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 1 March 2015

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas: "It is always great to have this winning feeling. It's my first trophy at Chelsea so I'm very happy. It's going the right way - we have a young team but also have a good mixture of experience too.

"Spurs had five or 10 minutes in the first half but overall I thought we were in complete control."

On Chelsea's post-match celebrations: "We will stay here at Wembley for a while then get back on the bus to Stamford Bridge. But then we will get into our cars and go home to rest for Wednesday's game against West Ham. We want to win the Premier League too - maybe we can have a big party at the end of the season."

No party for Chelsea this evening. Cesc Fabregas tells the media it is back on the coach to Stamford Bridge and then back home in their cars. A trip to West Ham up next for the Premier League leaders on Wednesday.

"The idea of putting Kurt Zouma in midfield was the right decision, Christian Eriksen hardly kicked the ball and that was because Zouma was brilliant. He has suddenly become a huge part of this group."

Richard Clarke: How good has John Terry been for Chelsea again? Solid defence and a goal. Has any other player in history served his club so well and for so long?

Matt, Torquay: As outstanding as Harry Kane is, you need a game-changer in games like this. We simply don't have one.

Adeniyi Akinyemi: Kurt Zouma has just shown Jon Obi Mikel the exit door.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to Sky Sports: "I am really happy. I should start with Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino because he is building a great team. They gave us a great match and I feel sorry for them.

"My players were fantastic. Finals are not for playing they are for winning. We did not have problems. They had a couple of chances but nothing else. We knew we would be dangerous on the counter and we played like we should play a final.

"Man of the match? They are Thibaut Courtois and Filipe Luis, who played fantastic against Liverpool. Man of the match was Andreas Christensen who played well against Shrewsbury. There are more than John Terry because we are a team. I am proud of the guys."

Tottenham will point to the 63% possession they had but they had to do more with it. Chelsea just soaked the pressure up and hit them on the break.

PJC, Essex: Chelsea were tactically better but they killed the game to win. Not a classic cup final at all.

TH21: Love to see John Terry lifting the trophy with Dider Drogba like he did with Frank Lampard.

Kwasi Boafo: A very good day for Chelsea - winning the League Cup and Manchester City losing. Wonderful.

"Chelsea were in complete control, they didn't give Spurs fans anything to sing about. We did see Jose Mourinho come out of his technical area, sort of saying to the crowd: 'My team are giving you a trophy, give us something back'. The atmosphere was a little dull."

No lack of atmosphere now as the Chelsea fans join in with the 'Liquidator' song. The Tottenham supporters are long gone.

And now for the obligatory team dive. Surely someone can come up with some original cup final celebrations?
