Bandwagons are there to be jumped on Shohan. It's been a dismal few weeks for English sides in Europe, and you can give them the biggest winter break you like but if Lionel Messi plays like he did last night, Barcelona go through.

James Marshall: Everton will have one eye now on their Premier League position. Is it worth busting a gut now.

Ken Barnes: The Premier League is a cash cow for the journey men also-rans.

Shohan Sen, from Kent: Let's face it, European life for English clubs could have been far better with a little more luck and possibly being a little less unlucky, but the reason everybody is jumping on the "European failure" bandwagon is because this isn't the first time it's happened recently! But as the saying goes... "there's always next year!"

  3. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Antolin Alcaraz out of position, Lukasz Teodorczyk in behind him and Tim Howard makes a fine save. Twenty minutes left, more goals on the cards too...

Yani Kapitanov: Well, even if Everton do get through ... what next? They'll be destroyed in the next round if they continue to defend like that.

Matthew Keegan: Excuse me. Up until tonight, Everton have been the shining light in Europe. Cut it out with associating us with the others!

Alex Barton: This performance is disgusting. Martinez needs to go, Everton need to spend on a centre back.

Three up front now for Everton, Romelu Lukaku the biggest left winger since Jonah Lomu, powering past a man but too slow in releasing the pass. Everton look dangerous, they have all night. At both ends.

  6. Elsewhere in Europepublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Fiorentina remain in cruise control against Roma after their blitz of three goals in the first 22 minutes. The hosts need four goals to go through but Fiorentina have gone close to adding to their tally with Mohamed Salah hitting the bar from close range after a fine solo run.

  7. Postpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Twenty-five minutes to score twice, that's Everton's task. Score twice, and not concede again.

Romelu Lukaku powers into the box, he wants a penalty but the foul goes against him as Sergei Sydorchuk gets his body across.

Charlie: Jags is trying to cover for Alcaraz and its affecting his game. Need stones on.

Andrew David Payne: ‏For England centre halves look no further than Lescott and Dawson at WBA with all their recent clean sheets.

Peter Collins: Can England start Barkley? He's actually played well and deserves some recognition for it!

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Double change for Everton. On come Leon Osman and Arouna Kone, off come Steven Naismith and Christian Atsu. Kitchen sink time.

  10. CLOSE!published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

This is a cracking game for the neutral. Kiev next to threaten as midfielder Miguel Veloso ripples the side-netting from 25 yards. Everton now leaving themselves more and more vulnerable to the counter-attack as they push men forwards.

Peter Collins: There's been a chance for a thumping for a while. Everton cannot defend anymore. Moyes must be in tears to see what's happened.

Naveed Afzal: This is shambolic defending by Everton. I'm no Everton fan but I'm angry with what I'm seeing.

Kenneth Barr: Tim Howard should sue the Everton "defence" for non-support.

  12. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Everton have conceded four goals or more in a European game for the third time in 81 matches. It is likely to prove costly - but wow!

Ross Barkley hits the post from 25 yards with a sensational shot! Out on the left wing, cutting inside and unleashing hell against the woodwork. That was brilliant...

Ikenna Onyia: Everton being battered. What has happened to English football?

Sanj: It's only right that the Premier League's interest in Europe this season ends in a beating like this. All been so embarrassing.

  14. Postpublished at 19:18 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Everton intent on making life interesting. Kevin Keegan-style stuff now as they chase the two goals which would put them through on away goals. You can't defend so attack lads...

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Kiev coach Sergei Rebrov is away dancing down the touchline but hang on, a great strike from Christian Atsu and that's a flying save from Olexandr Shovkovskiy! Top save!

  16. GOALpublished at 19:14 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Well that could well be curtains for Everton, curtains for the Premier League in Europe. Again, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, it's poor defending. A cross comes in from the right, Phil Jagielka and Antolin Alcaraz are nowhere and while Oleg Gusev's first effort is blocked by Seamus Coleman, he rattles his second shot off the post and in.

Everton must score twice more now.

Gus Sette: Of course Phil Jagielka should be in the England squad and not just because I used to work with his brother Steve!

James Porter: I think we can all agree Alcaraz was a mistake and Stones is twice the player and roughly half the age.

FreddyHowardinho: Get Alcaraz and Atsu off the field of play - neither anywhere near good enough. Osman, Stones to replace and then... pray.

Niall Hughes: It's 3am in Perth and Alcaraz has once again given me nightmares. I have no idea how Wigan got relegated. Get Stones on now!

  20. Postpublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Everton keeping the ball well and moving Kiev around the park. The hosts are defending their 18-yard line well though.
