James Marshall: Not great so far from Everton but hey ho they are still in it. Just one goal, so not all doom and gloom.

  2. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

The corner comes in and Steven Naismith goes down in a tangle of legs, referee Deniz Aytekin is having none of it and it would have been soft. Encouraging spell from Everton though.

  3. Postpublished at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Romelu Lukaku is harshly judged to have fouled his man when he was just stronger, but Everton force a corner well.

"Relax!" is the instruction from Roberto Martinez.

Phil Jagielka cracks his back clearing his lines with an overhead kick but he's OK to carry on. Needless to say, if Everton concede one more then it really will look like game over.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Here we go, back under way. No changes from Everton at the break.

Opeyemi Faseyitan: As things stand, Everton need just one goal to go through provided they don't concede again. I believe they can do it.

David Broome: Given the way Everton defended that first half, it seems a falsehood to state they just need one goal to advance. Two at least?

Graham Atkinson: Please please please can we have John Stones for the second half?

Ryan Shawcross deserves a few more caps I reckon. But what do I know?

John Stones, Calum Chambers - after that which young centre-backs are coming through the England ranks though?

We asked who you think is worth a go in the centre of defence for England....

Will Binks: Don't like watching him, but surely Ryan Shawcross is more solid than Jagielka, Smalling and Jones?

Mark_Lynch: Harsh judging Jagielka based on how shaky he looks today. Alcaraz is a liability!

Alex Smith: Being a bit harsh on Jagielka, Beckenbauer would look a bad player next to Alcaraz.

Jamois: Chris Smalling for Jags for England - looks to be harnessing his natural ability finally. Very good vs Spurs last week.

That Champions League berth for next season is sliding away from Everton as it stands. Can they turn it round?

  11. Postpublished at 18:57 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

One goal and Everton are back on top. They have Darron Gibson, Arouna Kone and Leon Osman on the bench as attacking options.

It's half-time in Rome, where the hosts' task to get through is daunting to say the least. Three goals in 22 minutes have put their Serie A rivals Fiorentina in control. Some Roma fans have done 'a Sunderland' and have left the stadium already. Rome and Sunderland don't often get mentioned in the same breath, do they?

  13. Napoli are throughpublished at 18:53 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Napoli are the first team to book their place in the quarter-finals. Rafael Benitez's team saw out a goalless draw against Dinamo Moscow to complete a 3-1 aggregate win. He's done it with Valencia and Chelsea - can Benitez add a third Uefa Cup / Europa League triumph to his CV?

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:50 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

A very, very entertaining first half. The Premier League may be losing its status in Europe but we can usually be relied on to offer entertainment. In the guise of hapless defending, if nothing else...

David Bulgin: Everton aren't going very far after the shocking defending first half...may as well make it a full house of English clubs out of European competition...just are not good enough these days sadly.

Ian Slick Gannon: Come on Everton. We need someone in the quarter finals

Danny Connelly: Another English team going out. Overrated!

Seamus Coleman wins a corner in stoppage-time. Last chance?

  18. Get involvedpublished at 18:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2015

Phil Jagielka is likely to start for England alongside Gary Cahill in the forthcoming internationals. He's not looked particularly great this evening. But there is a real lack of centre-half options in Roy's squad. Who would you pick?

England defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Have we ever done a live text featuring Antolin Alcaraz that hasn't had at least one Alcatraz reference? Nope. Everton need half-time, see this out and go again.

David Broome: I can't believe the Everton defending - actually let's not cal it that, it is an insult to real defenders everywhere.

Mark Schuman: Everton's other 10 players must be hoping for an escape from Alcaraz.
