Hull have come out with some real intent and they come very close to taking the lead as Stephen Quinn's cross just beats the head of Nikica Jelavic in the box, bounces off Danny Rose and goes wide. Steve Bruce has spent most of the game on his feet. Now his head is in his hands.

  4. CLOSE!published at 16:07 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

Queens Park Rangers must score... GOAL... no. Jonas Gutierrez is the Newcastle saviour on the goal line. Brilliant stuff from Charlie Austin to weave crossing space and a delightful clip to the back post, Matt Phillips to apply the finish from six yards, Gutierrez denied him. A brave block but he shouldn't have been given a chance.

"It's very evenly balanced, it's a case of one goal might settle it. Hull put a lot, physically and mentally, into the first half, but can they keep it up? Spurs were not at their best and I feel they might get better as the game goes on."

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

Yun Suk-young on for Steven Caulker in a defensive change and Junior Hoillett is replaced by 18-year-old striker Reece Grego-Cox.

A few minutes later than the rest, the game at Loftus Road is under way.

Dame N'Doye has a half-chance to create something in the box as the ball is swung in to his feet from the right, but he is crowded out by two Spurs defenders. Soon after, a Hull corner is delivered to the head of Paul McShane, who heads wide. Good start to the half from the visitors.

Phil, Fareham: QPR are a disgrace, they have a duty to the league - not least to Leicester, Sunderland, Villa and Hull - to put in 100%. And I actually want Newcastle to stay up.

Matt: As a Birmingham fan I have great memories of the Europa League when we were in it, forget the talk about not wanting it I bet the fans do and isn't that what football is all about.

And we are back under way everywhere in the Premier League but Loftus Road. This is because of that Rob Green injury.

I miss the good old times when players scored three goals in three minutes on the way to their team hitting six. We've got players heading back out on to Premier League pitches. Second halves coming up...

Robert Huth is a defender's defender isn't he? No need for playing the ball out from the back for this guy. Frankly, he finds the idea of building play confusing. In over 45 first-half minutes the German played five passes. He lost the ball with three of them.

Are Queens Park Rangers overly enthused by this game? They have been void of thought or creativity but have at least covered over 51km as a team, around one kilometre less than their visitors.

They certainly have effort on show but guile, threat and conviction, not so much.

Not much between the teams at Upton Park. West Ham feel they should have had a penalty after Cresswell's cross appeared to hit Coleman's arm. Lukaku curled a great effort high and wide for Everton while Stuart Downing had the home side's best chance.

In the all important Fair Play table it is advantage West Ham as Everton's Barry and Coleman went into Mr Friend's book while Reid was shown a yellow for the Hammers.

  17. Few goals, plenty of tensionpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

So far, it is an afternoon light on Premier League goals but steadily increasing in tension. Of the teams in relegation trouble at the start of play, Newcastle will undoubtedly be the happiest with their afternoon's work so far. They have the goal that lifts them up to 14th and, as it stands, top-flight safety. Hull are the team most in need. If they cannot find a goal at Spurs you suspect that could be curtains.

Think Gordon Banks down at the near post from Pele. Take away several degrees of difficulty and that's this Alex McCarthy save. It was a Daryl Janmaat shot which deflected into the path of Fabricio Coloccini and he stabbed goalwards to find McCarthy down at his near post to tip it around.

Another Newcastle goal and this is over. QPR are like a kid on the last day of term, arms folded, at ease with the world.
