There's been plenty of pre-match chat about Mark Sampson's hair. Why? I'm not sure, but it is looking very sharp I'll give him that. He's strolling along the edge of his technical area at the moment, shouting instructions at his players. A solid start, but England have shown a couple of nervous moments in possession.

England are straight on the offensive, harrying Mexico from the outset, and quickly win possession. They attack through Eniola Aluko, who tries to squeeze between Monica Ocampo and Alina Garciamendez but she can't get through and Mexico break down the other end of the pitch where Kenti Robles' shot is blocked.

Gambeanö Snitch: I want Aluko to prove me wrong today because I don't rate her. All pace, no end product.

Vicky Nurse: Come on England! Let's bag some goals..

Colin J: England women defo won on the singing stakes against Mexico

  4. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 13 June 2015

A clap of encouragement from Mexico coach Leonardo Cuellar, a firm blast of the whistle by the referee and Mexico get us under way.

Some top national anthem singing from the two sets of players and they are given a rapturous applause by the fans in attendance before breaking off to take up their respective positions on the pitch.

Shirley Bradbury: Where's Carney and Nobbs if they're fit? Hmmm. I think Fran Kirby's going to be a key player here. Would have kept Karen Carney in.

Jenny Holt: Tactics critical today must play to strengths, Sampson has to hold his hands up and admit he stuffed up vs France.

Mick Fiftyseven: Mark Sampson blew it with his ridiculous tactics in the French game. Look at what Colombia did. Now he's talking tosh.

"Not entirely sure why France looked off the pace against Colombia earlier today but it's a warm day here and players have told me that it feels a lot hotter on artificial pitches which are replete with black rubber crumbs. Black boots are a no-go apparently. Thankfully for England, though, it is cooling down a bit now as we approach 5pm local time."

Liverpool striker Natasha Dowie on BBC Three: "I'm really excited to see the front three today - you've got a great blend of the pace of Eni Aluko, Toni Duggan has the skill and likes to shoot from distance, while Fran Kirby is a real threat and a good dribbler. All three can play as the number nine or out wide. I think we can cause Mexico a lot of problems going forward."

"It's a much more attacking England team - that's exactly what we all wanted to see. I'm excited to see Fran Kirby, she's an unbelievable talent. Just give her ball and let her do what's she's good at. She's a bit of a free spirit."

One part of England's front three is Toni Duggan, a player who certainly knows where the net is. Duggan is playing on the right side of central striker Eniola Aluko, with Fran Kirby on the left.

"The one thing I noticed about Mexico and Colombia in the first game is their ball retention was not very good. Mexico were physical, but they were sloppy in possession and that is something England can exploit."

Charlyn Corral is a player to watch for Mexico.

The 23-year-old stands at just 5ft tall but her strength lies in her technique, with her speed, footwork and finishing power a threat to any side.

Corral, who plays professionally in Finland, had an injury-time goal ruled out in their group opener against Colombia, which would have been Mexico's first at a World Cup.

Corral lines up as part of a front two against England today.

Mexico may have had little to cheer about in their Women's World Cup appearances so far but they might just fancy their chances against England.

The two sides met in the group stage of the last World Cup in 2011, sharing a 1-1 draw.

Fara Williams was the scorer for England that day, and she says: "You don't panic after one game. Mexico are a good team but they're certainly not as good as France. We'll definitely be hoping to attack a lot more and you'll see a different side to an England team going into the game on Saturday."

Jamie Law: Hope we do better this time because the France game was awful.

It Could Kick Off: Group wide open. Massive opportunity to pounce on (like lionesses!) and they're very much capable of taking six out of six.

    Rachel Yankey
Former England midfielder on BBC Three

"I felt having played against France that you had to go at them and show your intent. But England have another opportunity tonight to get a win."

  20. 'A huge performance'published at 20:35 British Summer Time 13 June 2015

    Mark SampsonImage source, Getty Images

England manager Mark Sampson has been talking to the BBC in the tunnel in Moncton.

"The team are confident," he said. "That loss to France could have upset a lot of teams but we've showed our strength and togetherness and we're really up for it.

"We know this is a big game for us. We want to play to our maximum and that's what we need.

"There is a lot of pressure but that's how it is at the World Cup. We've reacted very positively to the France result and we're focused on producing a huge England performance."
