What have you made of the England performance?

One year on from the World Cup, one year out from Euro 2016, what do you make of the current state of the England team? On the up, or just too mediocre?

James: I believe that England's decline is mostly down to the massive wages. There are some players who are mainly playing for the highest wages like Sterling, but obviously playing for England doesn't earn you any extra money so they aren't motivated to play well for them.

However there are also some who are clearly there because they want to play for their country such as Rooney and Townsend.

I think he's done OK, Adam Lallana. And Jordan Henderson has done fine at right-back as well. Maybe that change was a good one from Roy Hodgson?

Still more than 20 minutes to go. England look dangerous.

Tim Purcell: Adam Lallana looking like he has done all season - like a puppy at Crufts - wanting to play games but looking out of place.

England do cut through this time as Raheem Sterling is flagged offside before he tees up Wayne Rooney. Rooney still hits the post - not happening for him. He needs a penalty or two to break this record.

England's women's team needed a winner from a substitute last night and their male counterparts may be looking for inspiration from the bench too. Wayne Rooney could have levelled that record with those two chances - sitters by his high standards.

God save the Queen rings out from the boisterous away end.

Mike Hall: Rooney has to score. Would be substituted if not the England captain.

Jay: Rooney is in danger of becoming the new Soldado

Andrew Morris: Better England, more decisive and incisive but I think the record is weighing on Rooney. He'll be better once (if?) he gets it

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

Slovenia make a switch as Valter Birza comes on for Josep Ilicic - who made their goal. Fabian Delph has a shot from range easily saved, England well on top.

At around the same time as Jack Wilshere was scoring, Ukraine were extending their lead over Luxembourg in Group C. Now 2-0 to the hosts, Dynamo Kiev's Denys Garmash netting his country's second goal in nine minutes.

  12. CLOSE!published at 18:18 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

And Wayne Rooney REALLY SHOULD SCORE this time! Raheem Sterling does the donkey work again, waltzing into the box and cutting back to Rooney. It's not quite an open goal, there are defenders in the way, but you still expect goal number 48 to be registered. Instead Rooney slices over the top.

Bishop Yinkus: What a reminiscent of goal of the season by Wilshere, a good strike indeed

Peter Collins: That is some hit. He has absolutely hammered that one in. Not a bad way to score your first for your country!

James Butler: Wilshere one of this few "world class" players in the #England XI. Waited a long to time to show it, but he did there

  14. CLOSE!published at 18:17 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

The England fans are buzzing now and the men in red go close to taking the lead. Raheem Sterling squirms through a pocket of space before finding Wayne Rooney inside the area. Hard and low is the order of the day but he leans back and puts it high and over.

    Big chance.

"The ball fell nicely to Jack Wilshere and it was a sweet strike into the top corner. It was too much power for the goalkeeper. Adam Lallana did well in the build-up to the goal."

  16. GOALpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

Cracker! Cracking strike from Jack Wilshere for his first England goal. Adam Lallana turns nicely inside the penalty area to open up some space, and while he is tackled the ball runs out to Wilshere on the edge of the box, he puts the laces of his left boot right through the ball and hammers a swerving shot into the top corner.

Wonderful hit, and Samir Handanovic's hand can only help it on the way in.

"England have to get Adam Lallana on the ball now. The midfield need to look for him and he will attract defenders. That will open up the space for Raheem Sterling and Wayne Rooney."

  19. Postpublished at 18:12 British Summer Time 14 June 2015

Well played again Raheem Sterling. He is the only man with any sense of adventure with the ball at his feet, as he again beats his defender down the outside and flashes in a cross. It's half cleared out and Jordan Henderson hammers a shot well wide of the target.

England have 35 minutes to rescue themselves here and keep that unbeaten record alive.

Adam Lallana picks up possession in the hole and feeds it into Wayne Rooney's run - Rooney is offside though and drags a shot wide anyway. Slightly better from the visitors though.
