First proper test for Man Utd ... I wouldn't get carried away by their league form and beating a 3rd rate Belgian team in Europe ... they haven't played anyone decent yet ...

It's three years since Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey won an England cap against San Marino, but he may get another one as he is set to be named in Roy Hodgson's latest squad.

Manchester United dazzled in Europe in midweek as they put Brugge well and truly to the sword. Wayne Rooney was given the freedom of the city and he took full advantage to bag a hat-trick.

After the David Moyes year at Old Trafford - it's still in the history books, though it may soon be erased, 1984 style - Louis van Gaal had a heck of a job on his hands.

Louis van Gaal. Fifty games in charge of Manchester United.

Around £230m spent on new players.

A return to the Champions League.

    A significant step forwards made?

Or still a work in progress?
