  2. 'Pulis would have expected Berahino exit'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 1 September 2015

Former Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock on BBC Radio 5 live:  "I thought it was obvious last week that Tony Pulis expected Berahino to go. But the thought of those two guys, Jeremy Peace and Daniel Levy, discussing a deal, makes me smile. It would be like extracting fingernails. They're the two most difficult chairman around when it comes to negotiating deals."

  3. 'Quiet day at Spurs'published at 17:48

    Richard Conway
BBC Radio 5 live sports news correspondent

"It's been a quieter day than many expected at White Hart Lane. Saido Berahino has been the subject of several bids from Tottenham over the summer, today more bids have come in and they too have been rejected. It has now got personal, it's got quite angry. Saido Berahino will remain a West Brom player, but there is a degree of acrimony."

    Martin Keown
Football Analyst on BBC Two Football Focus

"If you’re going to let Di Maria go with a £20m loss, anything can happen. Only seven players remain at Manchester United from the title-winning squad of two seasons ago and some fans are worried that the core has been ripped out of it. The question marks are there, they are backing the manager, but this one is a real gamble on a youngster."

Mind you, they can't believe we work all day either.

  7. Martial 'perfectly suited for the Premier League'published at 17:45

    Anthony Martial

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville is currently assistant coach at Valencia, who knocked Monaco out of the Champions League this season and has witnessed Anthony Martial first hand.

“Of the two games and video footage I witnessed of him he is a top, top striker," Neville told Football Focus.

"He is quick, he is strong and likes to drift out to the left. When you are sat on the bench and every time he got the ball I thought, no, get the ball away from him! He looks so dangerous and so direct.

"He is perfectly suited for the Premier League. I think it is a very good signing. It is a lot of money. Everybody in Spain can’t believe the amount spent in England, they can’t stop laughing at the fees we pay."

  8. 'An unbelievable offer'published at 17:44

    John Bennett
    BBC World Service

"Monaco's Vice President Vadim Vasilyev has been talking about Anthony Martial's move.

"He says "we hoped to keep him for one more season but they made an unbelievable offer. Even if this transfer wasn't predicted it's proof of the quality of work of our technical staff and that we were right to sign him two years ago. We wish Anthony all the best for the rest of his career."

"It's yet another departure at the club this summer. They lost star players Layvin Kurzawa, Aymen Abdennour, Yannick Ferreira Carrasco and Geoffrey Kondogbia."

    Players have the power

    David Pleat
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Jeremy Peace, the West Brom chairman, has stood his ground on behalf of the supporters. But it's Tony Pulis, the manager, who has the problem on the training ground, I think Tony would have wanted Berahino away.

"The players have the power these days with these very big contracts, and it's difficult for a manager to integrate someone back into the fold in these circumstances."

  12. 'Totally embarrassing'published at 17:41 British Summer Time 1 September 2015

Football journalist Henry Winter on David De Gea's failed move to Real Madrid on Football Focus: "It's totally embarrassing for the Premier League and the Spanish League. This undermines the transfer window.

"Look at Manchester City, they tied up the big deals and did their work early. No business in the country can expect to send documents two minutes after the deadline expect them to go through."

"It will be very difficult for Saido Berahino but you have to toe the line and be professional and conduct yourself in the right way. He's not going to Spurs and doing that (tweeting) will not help him get a move.

"(But) I don't understand the logic of keeping him. West Brom have already got a replacement in Rondon. What is the advantage?"
