"What was evident to me against Liverpool (in a 0-0 draw) was that when one of their two centre-backs is missing, and particularly Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal look so vulnerable. Their strength in depth defensively is not there."
This just in from golfer - and Arsenal fan - Ian Poulter:
Miles Storey (Swindon - Inverness) Loan
Another player from the Football League is making a move to Scotland.
Swindon striker Miles Storey , 21, has joined Inverness on loan until January.
'Review scouting'
Arsenal fans are not happy. They want a refund in fact.
Quote Message"So another frustrating transfer window shuts with Arsenal sitting on huge financial resources despite there being a widely held view squad additions were needed. The AST would like the club to review its scouting and playing purchasing arrangements. If they believe all is well they should reflect on what the point is of a football club. If Arsenal run for the benefit of supporters - why does the Club sit on huge cash piles year after year? Whether it needs to be spent on the team is a matter of opinion. If the opinion of the manager is that it doesn't, and the board back him, so be it. However, give the money back to the supporters in lower ticket prices and other benefits".

"There's one club, who we're not talking about, who have only done one deal this summer. They are in North London. They have been sensible.
"If you look at some of these deals, players are being overvalued. It's as if some managers were worried about sitting in their chair and doing nothing."
Manchester City have spent a record amount for one club this summer, and we are all intrigued to see how new £50m+ man Kevin De Bruyne fits into the jigsaw.
After the international break the early pace-setters face Crystal Palace away.
Pace everywhere!
Football journalist Henry Winter on Manchester City's transfer window: "The important business they did was the statement and contract for manager Manuel Pellegrini because it parked all the Pep Guardiola talk. The club have backed the manager."

"Liverpool have also submitted - and had accepted prior to the 18:00 deadline - a Premier League deal sheet to secure the signing of 18-year-old Brazilian Allan Rodriques de Souza.
"He is expected to complete a £500,000 move from Porto Alegre-based Internacional and has been training with Liverpool while waiting for the deal to be finalised."
Michael Smith (Swindon - Barnsley) Loan
Striker Michael Smith has joined Barnsley from fellow League One side Swindon on loan until 4 January.
The 23-year-old netted 18 goals in 46 games last season for Swindon.
It is being reported that Bradley Johnson to Derby is a club-record fee of around £6m.
I don't even know what constitutes good value any more.

Quote MessageCrystal Palace had agreed a deal with Stoke for midfielder Mile Jedinak and a deal sheet was in, but the move collapsed on personal terms. Dwight Gayle was subject to an offer from Norwich, but he will be staying put too. Palace were keen to sign Charlie Austin, but he turned them down.
Stevie May (Sheffield Wednesday - Preston), Eoin Doyle (Cardiff - Preston)
Preston have just announced a double signing as the window closes.
Striker Stevie May joins on a three-year deal from Sheffield Wednesday, while fellow forward Eoin Doyle has signed on a season-long loan from Cardiff.
North End have been short of goals and they have remedied that. Their fans will be happy.

Chief executives have responsibilities to spend sensibly. There’s so many people in charge at clubs - recruitment and chief execs who I’ve dealt with who don’t have a clue about football.

From Oz in Buckinghamshire: By not signing a single outfield player, it shows that Wenger actually believes all his team needed to win the Premier League was a goalkeeper yet we struggled to even finish third!!! Absolutely shocking!!
We think that Derby have spent £10m today on two midfielders by the way. Wowzers.
