Chelsea had 61% of possession but only managed two shots on target at Goodison Park, one in each half. 

They did have 15 shots at goal but, before people start talking about a fake result, Everton managed 14, with nine on target.

Everton forward Steven Naismith, speaking to BT Sport: “There was some interest in me on transfer deadline day and it’s always hard when you’re not playing but the manager decided he wanted to keep me. Hopefully I showed my worth today.”

Everton defender Phil Jagielka, speaking to BT Sport: “John Stones has been supreme all season. There has been a lot of talk about him but all the players have backed him. He’s been playing really well and that shows what kind of character he is.”

"That result was very unlike Chelsea. Jose won't be going anywhere, but you cannot afford to start the Premier League sluggishly and they have done. They are treading water, or really going backwards.

So, Everton are up to third, for a couple of hours at least, after that win. Chelsea drop two places to 15th and could in theory drop lower. The champions could also find themselves 11 points behind Manchester City if the leaders beat Crystal Palace.

"And more than that, their defence, normally so reliable, is leaking goals. That is why they went for John Stones."

There will be four minutes of stoppage time at Goodison Park before Chelsea's worst start to a top-flight season since 1986 is confirmed.

Willian just pings a 40-yard pass straight out of play as he tries to find Eden Hazard. That sort of sums up the way things have gone in attack for Chelsea today. As for their defence... that's been even worse.

Another yellow card for Andre Marriner to dish out as Cesar Azpilicueta sends Aaron Lennon tumbling. No sign of a late Chelsea fightback - that third goal has finished them off.

John Stones has hardly put a foot wrong in the Everton defence today but he just blotted his copy-book slightly after being shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away as Chelsea try to take a quick free-kick. The home fans react with another chorus of "money can't buy you Stones."

The Everton fans are chanting "Going down" at their Chelsea counterparts and "You're getting sacked in the morning" at Jose Mourinho. I don't think he can claim this defeat is another "fake result" either.

"What a substitute eh? Everton's best move of the finish half, in fact their only real move of the second half, is finished by Steven Naismith.

"Asmir Begovic was a bit too eager coming out towards the edge of his six-yard box, and Naismith, coming in on the angle, hits it home. Hat-trick. The second half has belonged to Chelsea but that should win Everton the points."

Chelsea are running into a line of Everton defenders every time they get near the edge of the Everton box. The visitors keep forcing corners - surely one of them will lead to something?
