    Steven Naismith (17 min)

Not sure where Branislav Ivanovic is here, though. Brendan Galloway swings in a delicious cross from the left and Steven Naismith, only on because of Muhamed Besic's injury, gets on the end of it to plant a header past Asmir Begovic.

Branislav Ivanovic's form has been singled out by some by one of Chelsea's problems this season but he does well enough here as Brendan Galloway gallops at him down Everton's left, reading the teenager's intentions perfectly and easily dispossessing him.

Daniel Taylor:  Chelsea look much better with Mikel in the side. His presence is allowing the front four to do as they please.

"Bad news for Muhamed Besic, but will this change Everton's set-up?

"They started with James McCarthy and Gareth Barry in a holding position in front of a back four. There's a bit of a defensive look about Everton as well as Chelsea. The home side will have to break pretty quickly."

Just as I write that, Everton threaten via a cross - James McCarthy sends the ball in from the right but it is just too high for Steven Naismith, who was arriving at the back post.

Everton have had the only shot of the game so far, a wayward effort by Ross Barkley just before Muhamed Besic went off, but Chelsea continue to look more dangerous, especially when they cross the ball into the box from the right.

Muhamed Besic is down again and he cannot continue - Steven Naismith is coming on instead. Besic trudges off, looking every bit as unhappy as you would be if your first Premier League appearance of the season was over after eight minutes.

Nice footwork by Cesc Fabregas in his own half, and a nifty nutmeg too, but his attempt to release Eden Hazard down the left sees the ball fly straight through to Tim Howard. That first assist of the season is going to have to wait.

Chelsea have a spell of possession inside the Everton half this time, but the home side are holding firm on the edge of their own area and they also have 11 players again because Muhamed Besic is back on the pitch.

"John Stones has got a bit of weight on his shoulder today because of the opposition and he was out applauding the fans around the ground before kick-off. How the Everton supporters react to him will play a key role in determining his future."

Besic is beating his leg in frustration behind the goal as Everton take the corner short. When the cross eventually comes in, Asmir Begovic is fouled by Romelu Lukaku. The Toffees are still down to 10 men.

A problem for Everton. Muhamed Besic bursts forward and wins a corner from Kurt Zouma but was hurt in the challenge and is now receiving treatment.

Everton fans start singing "Money can't buy you Stones" as the Toffees defender makes his first contribution to the game, shrugging off Diego Costa on the edge of the area. Nicely done.

Good to see that Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho can still manage a smile after the (largely) miserable month he has had since the start of the season.

Will he be grinning at the final whistle though?

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45)

    Kevin Kilbane
    BBC Radio 5 live

"It’s surprising how poor Chelsea have been defensively. All of a sudden teams are finding it easy to play through them. Jose Mourinho will be gutted at their start.

"One of two bits of tinkering is all it will take. It might be a hindrance with Thibaut Courtois being out but they still have the quality overall. Last year people were saying they weren’t the most glamorous side to watch but I loved to watch them – how they were so hard to break down defensively. I think they’ll be back to that soon."

  20. Another tennis score?published at 12:43

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

While I am reminding you of what happened last week, I might as well refresh your memory about what happened when these sides met last season, too...

In short it was a thriller. I was lucky enough to be at Goodison Park to watch it, although I struggled to keep count for a while in the second half when the goals were flying in.

It finished 3-6, with Diego Costa scoring two for Chelsea.

Cesc Fabregas made one of them for his fourth assist of the season in only his third game... but it seems a long time since he was in such rich creative form. This season, Fabregas has not managed any assists in five matches (including the Community Shield), which sort of sums up his entire year, let alone the last month.
