Kurt Zouma is back on his feet and able to carry on. To be perfectly honest he could take a breather now because he has not had much defending to do since the break.

Another potential problem for Chelsea. Kurt Zouma has been hurt in a challenge with Gareth Barry and is down on the floor in some pain.

Chelsea have just forced their 10th corner. They may as well have had 100 for all the threat they have posed from them - this time Phil Jagielka heads clear for the home side.

Everton, in contrast, are getting the ball forward quickly and practically operating on the break. That suits Romelu Lukaku down to the ground and his presence almost forces a mistake from Kurt Zouma who just about gets enough on his back-pass to Asmir Begovic, who comes sliding out of his area to kick clear with the big Belgian lurking.

"This is a bit of a test now for Everton. I thought they started to look a bit weak, particularly down the right-hand side, towards the end of the first half.

"And had they been able to score more from that period in the first half when they could have had four, they would have been out of sight. One moment, from Nemanja Matic, changed it."

More of the same from Chelsea in the early stages of this second half. Lots of possession, some nice passes... but no penetration or end product.

If Chelsea don't recover to pick up a point today, it will be their worst start to a season since 1986.

Right, time to see what the champions have got in their locker. Chelsea get the second half under way as the sun breaks through the clouds on Merseyside.

"John Stones does look mature for his age. When the ball is around him he’s very composed for someone so young. He doesn't panic, he tries to play the ball out and his positional play is very good.

"And I tell you what, he's added to himself from this first-half performance."

This graphic is for the first 45 minutes and sums it up quite nicely... Chelsea have had more possession, and more of the ball in and around the Everton area, but have not done much with it. They needed that Nemanja Matic wonder-goal to get back into the game.

  11. Naismith - nearly joined Norwichpublished at 13:42

    Everton 2-1 Chelsea

Also worth pointing out that Norwich tried to sign Steven Naismith on transfer deadline day, slapping in an £8m bid for a player who has still not started a league game for the Toffees this season.

So John Stones is not the only player that Everton fans should be pleased they kept hold of... looks like money can't buy you Naismith either.

Just watching some replays of Steven Naismith's first goal. Worth pointing out he helped make it, with a neat turn, run and lay-off to Brendan Galloway on the edge of the box, before sprinting into the area to get on the end of Galloway's too.

Mickey Wallis: Why is Jose untouchable at Chelsea? He talks such a massive game and if they lose today he should pay the price with his job

Luke Barnard: So many fake Chelsea fans calling for Mourinho to go. He will stay and there's plenty of time left to turn things around

Dave Toole: Seriously? Some Chelsea fans are saying Jose should go? Modern football fan in a nutshell.

    Everton 2-1 Chelsea

    Jimmy Armfield
BBC Radio 5 live at Goodison Park

"We had plenty of goals when these teams met last year and frankly Everton should have had four after the first 25 minutes today.

"Chelsea have come back strongly though and Jose Mourinho will be thinking his team are right back in it. Everton had to see that first half out."

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:32

    Everton 2-1 Chelsea

The half ends with Everton on the attack though. They work an opening for Steven Naismith after a neat turn by Romelu Lukaku. Branislav Ivanovic gets back to hold him up but Naismith still manages to send in a cross that is met by Seamus Coleman but does not test Asmir Begovic.

  16. INJURY TIMEpublished at 45 min

    Everton 2-1 Chelsea

There will be two minutes of added time at the end of the first half. Chelsea continue to press, Everton continue to defend well.

Femi John Atoyebi: Chelsea back into the game!

Jeremiah Kariuki:  What a strike! What a goal! Everton caught napping by Matic.

John Dunthorne:  As soon as that left Matic's foot we knew where it was going.

Hmmm, I have to say this graphic of Nemanja Matic does not really do his strike justice... but at least you can see where his shot flew in from. Just imagine it breaking the net, and that should help give you a sense of how much power he had behind it.

A succession of corners, actually. Everton survive, though, when the ball is driven goalwards and Branislav Ivanovic sticks out a leg but sees the ball bounce wide.
