  1. Premier League - back with a bang... hopefullypublished at 12:42

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

It's been ages since the last round of Premier League fixtures (a whole two weeks) so probably worth reminding you what Everton and Chelsea got up to last time out.

Everton picked up a decent point on the road against Tottenham at White Hart Lane, but Jose Mourinho's 100th home league game as Chelsea boss saw him suffer only his second defeat, as surprise-package Crystal Palace claimed a shock win at Stamford Bridge.

John Stones can concentrate of his football. He's had a very positive experience. Any experience can be taken in a good way or bad way. It goes down to character and personality. The way he has handled it allowed him to mature and become a stronger personality. He's ready to have a fantastic season. Aaron Lennon hasn’t played so far this season, but looked sharp in training. No doubt he should take part. Ramiro Funes Mori has had less time to work with the group. They are both ready to give the squad a boost. Nothing has been said about Jose Mourinho [regarding the pursuit of Stones] that has been disrespectful. My worry about the transfer window is that it's open while action is under way. There is a respect between two football clubs.

The lyrics on this scarf read:

"Martinez says he's not for sale, and I was satisfied

"Chelsea want those kind of things, that money just can't buy

"I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me Stones!"

Anybody bought one? Send us a selfie. The announcer at Goodison Park has just played The Beatles song in question too, so it is very much a running theme.

Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

"What Chelsea player has performed better this season than they did last year? Or at the same level? None of them.

"Branislav Ivanovic has been all over the place, John Terry looks ropy, Nemanja Matic? Diego Costa? And generally they have been undercooked with their fitness, too."

    Quote Message

The results have been missing from the Premier League performances. I am more happy with performances than the results. I had hesitations [bringing back John Terry]. I have three central defenders ready to play. It's hard to leave someone out who is working hard. John was working with me the last 15 days. Gary Cahill played 90 minutes last Tuesday against Switzerland and John didn't. Cahill will be back playing in the Champions League next Tuesday. I had one day to work with the squad. We need the result to be adapted to the performance.

    Sam Allardyce
    BBC Radio 5 live

"Jose Mourinho is good for the game. He’s a talented manager. Not playing professionally was a huge obstacle to overcome but he did it. He knows how to be a winner and deal with his players.

"He’ll be hurting inside. He’ll be so disappointed in himself at this start. His will to win is so strong. He knows he has to get it right quickly. You can’t be cheerful and happy all the time."

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    Steve Bower
    BBC football commentator

"How will Chelsea respond to their defeat by Crystal Palace? Jose Mourinho has had a fortnight to reflect and will demand and expect a reaction.

"Chelsea need to rediscover their toughness and togetherness; the foundation on which last season's title success was built.

"One of many sub-plots sees Diego Costa try to add to his solitary goal against John Stones, who Chelsea hoped would be his team-mate by now.

"I watched Everton contain Manchester City for large periods at Goodison Park recently but struggle to create clear-cut opportunities. If they can do that here they could add to Chelsea's frustrations."

  9. "Stones is very level headed"published at 12:35

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    Kevin Kilbane
    BBC Radio 5 live

"It's the way football is – you see these quirky games pop up. John Stones has handled it all well – the transfer request mightn’t have gone down well with Evertonians.

"But he’s very level headed and an excellent player. He wanted to play for a side challenging for the title. I was very pleased Everton managed to keep hold of him. It’s a big statement."

  10. What Chelsea missed out on...published at 12:32

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

"John Stones will cope with playing against Chelsea today. Obviously he wanted to go there, because he handed in a transfer request, but he will want to show them what they missed out on.

"He is an outstanding footballer, he still makes mistakes but a as time goes on he will make fewer and fewer."

  11. Another plane protest... ?published at 12:31

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

A plane is circling Goodison Park, carrying a banner which reads 'your failures are your legacy'.

I'm not sure who is behind it, or exactly who it is directed at. My guess is that it is another pop at Everton chairman Bill Kenwright and the Toffees board, but can any of you lot clear it up?

The message is not quite as clear as the banner which read 'Kenwright & Co #time to go NSNO,' in the fly-by protest during Everton's win over Southampton last month.

  12. "Chelsea have a scalp on their head"published at 12:26

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

    Trevor Sinclair
Former England winger on Football Focus

"Asmir Begovic in Chelsea's goal is not a problem for me at all. He has big shoes to fill in terms of  Thibaut Courtois, but Begovic is a great keeper. He's been given this opportunity and I'm sure he'll take it.

"Look at Chelsea's stats - after four games last season Cesc Fabregas had made six goals. He's created zero so far, and Chelsea need to get him further forward into the final third, because his skillset is first class.

"Chelsea have a scalp on their head as champions - everybody playing them wants to beat them, and I don't think Chelsea are dealing with that well at all."

MarcusNasty:  Why does Jose persist with Mikel?...Give Loftus-Cheek a chance. So infuriating! Also would like to see Kenedy today.

Cephas Ifeanyi:  Told friends that Mikel Obi will start today. He brings that solidity to the defence.

Joel Ejike Oblates:  Jose Mourinho is already under an intense pressure, if his team loses today at Goodison Park, ouch that gonna hurt more.

"It was nice to see a couple of stand-offs for a change – we all thought Stones would go and I thought Berahino would. Stones was handled much better than Berahino. It’s a joy to wake up at whatever level and play football. When it all stops it’s one of the worst things that happens to  you in your life. You should be one of the happiest people in the world getting up to play football."

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Speaking of predictions, here is Lawro with his take on today's clash at Goodison Park...

Lawro says: "Everton have been hit-and-miss so far this season while Chelsea were surprisingly poor before the international break. Most of their stand-out stars from their title success have been below par.

"I suspect Jose Mourinho's side will be much better this weekend - they will definitely be fitter, which is an area he felt they were short in."

    Lawro's score: Everton 0-2 Chelsea

  19. New boys set for Everton bowpublished at 12:10

    Everton v Chelsea (12:45 BST)

Things are hardly too rosy in Everton's garden either, with Tom Cleverley out for up to eight weeks because of ankle ligament damage.

The natives at Goodison Park have been restless in the opening weeks of the season too, unhappy about the direction of the club under its current regime.

At least John Stones is playing for them, not Chelsea, today though. And Toffees fans will also have some new signings to look out for at Goodison Park this afternoon - Aaron Lennon and Ramiro Funes Mori are both in their squad.
