Ryan Mason's goal was his last action of the match as he is carried off after getting a blow to the knee from Pantillimon. A 15-pass move could be the winning goal though.(see below)

Erik Lamela should make it 2-0 but he heads wide.

"There has been a real lack of quality in the final third from both teams today and the one real piece of quality gets the goal.

"Ryan Mason showed intelligence to run into the gap and kept his composure to chip the goalkeeper."

And happen it does. Brilliant by Ryan Mason.

The midfielder drives through Sunderland's midfield and combines with Erik Lamela to scythe through the defence and prod the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper Costel Pantillimon. A rare moment of quality and it could be enough for Tottenham's first win.

Another shot on target for Tottenham but Ryan Mason's low effort from the edge of the penalty area was never going to be strong enough to beat Costel Pantillimon. It wasn't.

Ola Toivonen is replaced by Jack Rodwell in midfield for Sunderland. Ten minutes left for something to happen.

A real lack of creativity going on here. First Jeremain Lens kicks the ball aimlessly into a Tottenham defender at one end and then Nacer Chadli replicates at the other.

Nacer Chadli goes close for Spurs as he slaloms his way into a shooting chance. His shot is deflected wide for a corner and, from the resulting kick, Eric Dier heads at goalkeeper Costel Pantillimon. Tottenham's first attempt on target.

Jon, Eastleigh:Starting to wonder if there's any plan in place by Poch for this side. Hopelessly poor here today.

Karl Toonz: Worried for Spurs, no attacking prowess. Mid-table finish on the cards at this rate.

Striker Duncan Watmore - who has got a first class degree in economics and business management this week - and midfielder Lee Cattermole come on for the Black Cats. They replace Jordi Gomez and Fabio Borini in straight swaps.

A bit of intelligence to win the game by Watmore?

Andros Townsend looks like he could be a danger man for Spurs in these last 20 minutes. He is beating Patrick van Aanholt at will on the right - who is now signalling he could have a hamstring injury.

"The decisions in the final third have been poor. Both teams are picking the wrong options.

"It’s all just a bit static and slow getting  support into  the box, and passes are being set back, crosses are coming in but there’s nobody there – for either side."

Andros Townsend beats Patrick van Aanholt as though he isn't there with a step over on the right. His cross looks to be heading towards Dele Alli at the far post but Sunderland clear.

The next attack creates a golden chance for Harry Kane as Ryan Mason's cross drops invitingly 10 yards out but he mis-kicks his swinging volley and the ball slices wide. A chance for Kane to break his league duck.

Billy Jones's deflected shot from 20 yards causes all sorts of problems inside the Tottenham box. Fabio Borini and Ola Toivonen both go for the loose ball but goalkeeper Hugo Lloris just about gets there first.

Great stuff from Dele Alli as he beats his man on the left before sending a low cross across the face of goal. None of his teammates react and the chance is gone.

Son Heung-min is replaced by Andros Townsend, who is making his first appearance of the season. He will play in the three just behind Harry Kane.
