    Sunderland 0-0 Tottenham

Jermain Defoe gets his first sight on goal but it is speculative to say the least. The ball is at his feet 20 yards out but there are too many Spurs players in the way and his shot is blocked.

    Sunderland 0-0 Tottenham

The early signs are that Jermain Defoe will be playing as the central striker for Sunderland. He will enjoy that...

A lively start from both teams. Sunderland fans appear up for this and their side are looking to respond. An early goal and the roof would lift off this place - metaphorically of course.

    Sunderland 0-0 Tottenham

Kyle Walker goes down under Patrick van Aanholt's clumsy-looking challenge. Play is waved on, but that could easily have been given. Spurs will feel a little hard done by.

Has the international break done Spurs striker Harry Kane some good? You would imagine so after scoring two in two for England, despite a Premier League duck so far. A few Kane stats for you

    • He has scored two goals from 28 shots in his last 12 Premier League appearances. In his previous 12 league games, he scored 14 goals from 33 shots.
    • He has failed to score with any of his 13 shots for Spurs this season (including blocked efforts).
    • His goal for England against San Marino was his first since 24 May - a run of eight games (including four England Under-21 matches).
    • He scored an own goal in the corresponding fixture last season, when the sides drew 2-2 at the Stadium of Light.

Jermain Defoe... Where have you heard that name before Spurs fans?

Of course, the now Sunderland striker played more than 250 times for Tottenham in two spells, scoring 142 goals.

He is Spurs' fifth highest all-time goalscorer. Looks like he will be playing on the flank today though for the Black Cats.
