    Quote Message

I will be back next week. The international week affected us more than Arsenal because most of our key players were away. We are a good team. Joe Hart needs that competition and Jack Butland is a fantastic goalkeeper.

  2. 'Liverpool are leaderless'published at 12:58

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"The worst defeat for Liverpool was West Ham at home before the international break, that was such an inept performance.

"But yesterday there was no width, they didn't create too many chances, and everyone was giving the ball away. But the biggest thing for me was that they looked characterless.

"There was no reaction after they went behind. They are leaderless. Jordan Henderson is back soon but there is nobody like Jamie Carragher, no Steven Gerrard. The players are all looking out for themselves."

  3. The strikers' unionpublished at 12:57

Stoke forward Peter Crouch is something of a connoisseur when it comes to bicycle kicks.

He clearly enjoyed Liverpool striker Christian Benteke's effort at Old Trafford yesterday.

Benteke needs the service. When Liverpool brought on Jordan Ibe things changed. Before that he had to come too deep to get the ball.

Goals from Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele have given the Cottagers the half-time lead. Blackburn have had a few chances, but been denied by the brilliance of keeper Andy Lonergan.

  8. Are we overreacting over Martial?published at 12:48

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"Anthony Martial has obviously got something, but the big thing for me was Manchester United starting with one up front at home - and that man was Marouane Fellaini. That says more about where they are.

"It's not sour grapes, United deserved to beat Liverpool - their first half was putrid - but Martial is still unproven and they've played an awful lot of money for him.

"We're all going extremely early aren't we? We do have a tendency to overreact. Where is Federico Macheda now?"

  9. The Berahino situationpublished at 12:46

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"I don’t understand why West Brom didn't deal with the Saido Berahino situation in the same way Manchester United dealt with David De Gea.

"If you give Berahino an improved new contract and say, by the way there’s the release clause, he will be playing, he will be scoring and the thing will go away."

  10. It's not Berahino v West Brompublished at 12:45

    West Brom 0-0 Southampton

    MOTD2 Extra

    Quote Message

There is a difference between playing for Jeremy Peace and playing for West Brom. The chairman comes and goes, the fans stay. It is not Berahino against West Brom, like it wasn't Peter Odemwingie against West Brom. I felt, at the time, I could not go any further with them.

    Peter Odemwingie, Stoke City forward

Odemwingie was talking about Saido Berahino handing in a transfer request at West Brom towards the end of the window, similar to what he did during his time at the club.

  11. Does Adebayor like football?published at 12:41

    Sunderland v Tottenham (13:30 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"I didn't even realise Emmanuel Adebayor was still at Tottenham. I always got the impression you got the best out of him when his contract is up for renewal. But once he's comfortable, I don't know, but I don't think he's in love with the game at all."

Adebayor has been released from his contract at Spurs.

Why would you play someone like Defoe on the wing? He is wasted. One chance and he scores.

  15. 'No-one can catch City'published at 12:29

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"There is no part of the Chelsea team that's working. Everyone says it's so difficult to win the league two seasons in a row but of all the teams this could happen to, I'm surprised it's happening to Chelsea.

"Jose Mourinho will motivate them and they will improve, there's no doubt, but they're not going to be good enough to catch Manchester City. City are so good that I can't see anybody catching them."

    Everton 3-1 Chelsea

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on MOTD 2 Extra

"There is nobody at Chelsea playing at anything like the level they were at last season. They've never been so easy to beat as they are now. They can't win the league, because Manchester City are a completely different animal this year as well.

"I tell you what though, there will be a lot of other managers out there thinking: ‘Welcome to my world, Jose.’”

  20. 'The Special One'published at 12:24

    Everton 3-1 Chelsea

    MOTD2 Extra

    Quote Message

Jose is unhappy with a few of his players. First thing you think about with Chelsea is the success of Eden Hazard and we are not seeing that at the moment. It is still early and there is a reason why Jose is called the Special One. There is always a plan B.
