    Rooney in three words

Flat-track bully? Or world-class forward? Best of a bad bunch? Frustrated talent? England legend?

Wayne Rooney will go down in history along the likes of Charlton, Hurst, Lineker, Greaves and Owen after his fantastic goalscoring record.

His lack of goals in big tournaments may count against him in your eyes, or is he just consistent against the sort of sides England tend to play?

    The Belarusian Bolognese

Luxembourg will play a European Championship qualifying game against Belarus as planned tonight despite 16 players suffering with food poisoning.

Luxembourg contacted Uefa about possibly rescheduling the game after 16 of the 20-man squad complained of severe stomach aches after a dinner of spaghetti bolognese in a Belarusian hotel on Sunday. Ouch.

However, team spokesman Marc Diederich said that all of the affected players are feeling ``much better,'' and will be able to play.

There's playing. And there's playing at full health...

  11. Last time we metpublished at 18:44

    England v Switzerland (19:45 BST)

The forgotten man of England's attack, Danny Welbeck, scored twice as England won 2-0 in Switzerland last year at the start of the Euro 2016 campaign.

The Swiss were ranked ninth in the world at the time, with England down in 20th.

Fast forward a year and Roy Hodgson's men are up to 10th and the Swiss are now 17th. All change.

Wayne Rooney has scored nine times in his past 11 internationals. And he was quick to place any potential record-breaker in a family context.

"It would mean a lot to my family," said Rooney. "To my wife and my parents and for my children when they have grown up to see my achievements."

    Nice.

Wayne Rooney scored his first goal for England 12 years ago this week. At 29, he probably has at least another tournament in him after next year's Euros.

Where will he eventually set the bar? Will it ever be beaten?

  17. Chasing the big 50published at 18:30

    England v Switzerland (19:45 BST)

You may have heard that there's a record set to be broken tonight?

    And what a record.

In May, 1970, Sir Bobby Charlton - then just plain Bobby - scored his 49th and final goal for England against Colombia.

It's been a long, long 45-year wait for anyone to take the record to 50. But Wayne Rooney - perhaps Sir Wayne one day? - can now make that a reality against Switzerland tonight.

Will he hit the 50 mark? Or will he keep us all waiting a bit longer yet?
