Joe Baker: I've never been keen on these pointless international friendlies. Oh wait a minute..

Mathew Penistone: Shelvey, Milner and Delph wouldn't get near the German or French squads yet start after just two injuries in ours. Oh dear.

Dom Port: Everyone moaning about James Milner, no one mentions Ross Barkley's lack of ability to find space. At least Milner gets to the positions.

England rescued by an incorrect offside flag as Josip Drmic looked to break in behind Chris Smalling. Poor call.

Drmic then fires wide after a good run and pass from Xherdan Shaqiri. The Swiss ending the half well.

After watching world champions Germany last night, and now seeing England, the contrast is even starker than chalk and cheese.

    More like Muller and Milner.

There is no quality in the final third. Good teams punish you, but England don't do that."

The tempo has really gone down hill in the last 10 to 15 minutes. Passes are being forced and the movement is not flowing. Wayne Rooney is playing up top on his own."

Marginally better for England as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain puts over an early cross for Wayne Rooney to attack, but he's never tall enough to reach it.

I'm not sure how much tickets were for the game tonight, but I'm fairly certain that you are not getting value for money. The game being played at the intensity and tempo of an end-of-season charity match as we tick towards half time. Wayne Rooney's record-breaking moment looking unlikely to come any time soon...

Tomas Keech: Raheem Sterling needs to start crossing the ball earlier instead of running into the box doing some step overs and losing it.

Number6ix: Great goalkeeping from Joe Hart but caused by Jonjo Shelvey not following the runner. Crucial at this level.

Simon Hancock: Shelvey in defensive midfield? I suppose it wouldn't really be England without playing someone completely out of position.

  9. 'Real willingness from Shelvey'published at 20:20 British Summer Time 8 September 2015

Jonjo Shelvey excelled in San Marino in his first England appearance for almost three years and he has picked up where he left off here. In a game lacking a serious competitive edge from England so far, the Swansea City midfield man is showing a real willingness to get on the ball and take responsibility.

England are looking and playing like a side that has already qualified for Euro 2016.

Chris Smalling just about gets it clear as the Swiss break through, more by luck than judgement though. He cuts out a pass but then almost falls over the ball, moving with the grace of a Boris Johnson challenge.

Manchester Unitedmidfielder Juan Mata has given Spain a 1-0 lead against Group C's bottom side Macedonia.

The defending European champions came into the match level on 18 points with Slovakia at the top of the group. The Slovakians are entertaining third-placed Ukraine (15 points). That match is 0-0.

In Group G, unbeaten Austria are 1-0 up against Sweden thanks to a penalty from Bayern Munich player David Alaba. The Austrians just need a point to qualify for France.

Best move of the game. Switzerland put together a neat one-two in midfield before Granit Xhaka feeds a fine pass through to find Xherdan Shaqiri. A clean touch and the Stoke man is in, but it's not quite right and Joe Hart is able to come out and take man and ball. Fine keeping, sweeping up.

England are always at their best when they play a high tempo game. They have been in decent positions but they've given the ball away cheaply. They have wasted possession in the final third."

Stoke winger Xherdan Shaqiri hammers a shot over the bar and then runs in behind the England defence - but he's offside. Both sides looking rather sluggish, mentally they may not be 100% switched on as they are both no the way to France.

Bob: Milner should do better! Either side of the keeper and England are one up.

Alan Vaughan: How does Milner get a place in the team? he makes me look fast (100m in 16 secs and that was when I was fit). Why Roy Why?

Shane Daly: Milner is a liability. He brings nothing to a squad. He is too old fashioned.

Raheem Sterling bursts clear down the left but cuts inside and loses the ball cheaply. Not what you want from a £49m man. England losing their way a little after a bright start. Chris Smalling has to be alert to block a dangerous cross.
