Ashley Wilkinson:  Congrats to Wayne Rooney. I've had my doubts and critcisms but that is a fine achievement. Spot on, Wayne.

All over! A poor game but one that goes in the record books thanks to Wayne Rooney's record-breaking moment.

The Swiss players all seem to know the significance too, sharing a handshake and a word with Rooney as he goes around the pitch. He's not swapping shirts for anyone...

It's not been the best of games and Wayne will say it's not been one of his most vintage performances. Wayne has earned it over the years. No one has come close to what Wayne has achieved in our era. It's nice to be here to witness it. Hopefully he can go on and score a few more."

I remember watching Gary Lineker miss a penalty at Wembley and then play poorly during Euro 92 and not break the record.

I was then convinced that Michael Owen would break the record.

Now Wayne Rooney has finally done it.

That's a good penalty by Wayne. The keeper got his left hand to it but Wayne doesn't care about that. Well done Wayne Rooney on reaching 50 goals."

The moment everyone was waiting for. Wayne Rooney visibly moved by the enormity of that moment.

Twelve years on from his first goal, Wayne Rooney has his 50th goal for England. A record that has stood for 45 years has gone.

Into the last 10 minutes. Stay with me.

Switzerland having a go now, a bit of belief and it's there to be had. Xherdan Shaqiri has a free hit from 25 yards, left of centre, but he is closed down and drags it wide.

Switzerland's heads have dropped. Some of their players feel hard done by. It was a great goal by Harry Kane and it's knocked the confidence out of a few Swiss players. They've got to keep going."

The biggest cheer of the night as Luke Shaw blocks a cross, the ball bouncing up right into the face of the extra assistant behind the goal. He's seeing stars.

Better down the right from England again, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with a low cross into the box, Raheem Sterling is muscled off the ball but Harry Kane retrieves it and fires in a shot which is deflected away. England look a better balanced side with Kane up there.
