Paul Thompson: This game needed an injection of Harry Kane magic. Great finish once again. Surely him and Wayne Rooney need to start together?

Andy: Finally some quality. Good goal, but what a miserable excuse for a football match.

Charles Kahanji: Harry Kane with that famous Alan Shearer celebration.

England's 100% record looks like being kept intact. A positive on the night for Roy Hodgson, though you wonder what he could have learned from a game as tame and noncompetitive as this one.

There it is! It never looked like coming but Harry Kane scores his third goal in four caps with a very crisp left-foot finish. Kudos to Luke Shaw too, a very good cutback from the left and Kane rattled in a low shot at the near post.

Ally Howe:  Can you switch to coverage of the San Marino game? Seems they have more attacking intent than England.

Lloydy Gaga:  Would this be San Marino's highest points total in a qualifying campaign?

Thomas Kelly: Forget England. San Marino have scored and playing against 10 men!!

    14-year wait ends!

San Marino have scored their first away goal in a competitive match since April 2001 - that's 34 games!

The honour goes to Matteo Vitaioli, who used to run a bar with brother Fabio.

The goal came from a powerful free-kick from about 20 yards out that saw the minnows equalise against Lithuania.

San Marino's previous away goal came during a 1-1 draw against Latvia in 14 years ago.

England just can't get out of first gear. After the first 20 minutes Switzerland have dominated this game. They have controlled the pace."

The Swiss certainly should believe they can win tonight. England are there for the taking. A desperately poor game of international football. The Swiss make a change with Breel Embolo on. Looked lively when I saw him play for Basel recently.

Into the final half hour, Switzerland breaking well and winning a corner. Can England raise their game? It's been a very drab game all round.

Plenty of noise from the Swiss fans as they win a corner down at that end. Ricardo Rodriguez whips it in, Ross Barkley is lazy and doesn't get there and Granit Xhaka wins the header, forcing Joe Hart into a save.

Rooney! Better again, Wayne Rooney snapping into a challenge, wanting the ball before quickly turning to shoot from 22 yards. Yann Sommer watches it all the way to make the catch but promising signs.
