What a delivery! Yevhen Konoplyanka whips in a free-kick from wide on the right, he catches Joe Hart out by going for the near post and he hits it!

From the follow up Hart makes an excellent save but then slips and flaps at a corner. All Sevilla!

They played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Bournemouth at the weekend but Manchester City seem to be shaping up in an old-fashioned 4-4-2 tonight, with Raheem Sterling as advanced as Wilfried Bony most of the time.

Kevin de Bruyne and Jesus Navas are working hard to get up and down the wings, and Yaya Toure and Fernandinho are holding the centre of midfield. It's certainly attack-minded, but will it work?

"Raheem Sterling has had a quiet start. It is tough for him because each time Sevilla lose the ball, the entire team becomes a defence. It is going to be hard for Man City to get through."

Anthony Martial gets the ball on the left wing for Manchester United, he faces his man up and drives on goal. Across comes Vasili Berezutski to make a block tackle - perfectly timed.

At the other end one-time United man Zoran Tosic fired wide. Game opening up a touch.

City do get the ball to Kevin de Bruyne and City do get a chance - the Belgian finds space on the left wing and finds a clever ball in. It's just behind Yaya Toure and Wilfried Bony gets a shot in with his left foot but it's right at Sergio Rico in nets...

  13. CLOSE!published at 19:53

    Man City 0-0 Sevilla

Sevilla fans know all there is to know about Jesus Navas but even they were surprised to see him shoot from fully 25 yards, he hits it brilliantly too but it flies a yard wide. Best moment so far for City.

"I am quite impressed with the referee letting this flow on a bit. He is not looking like one of these referees who will give something every time someone goes to ground, so we should have an open game."

A slightly subdued tempo to the opening proceedings as Wilfried Bony is fouled in the centre circle. City need to get Kevin de Bruyne involved.

As predicted earlier, there are still a fair few empty seats inside Etihad Stadium tonight as we approach kick-off, and there also seem to be a lot of Spanish speakers in the home section next to where I am sitting. No shortage of atmosphere, though. Both sets of fans making plenty of noise as the teams are read out.

United starting well in Moscow with Ander Herrera looking busy on the ball already - he was excellent in that role behind Wayne Rooney at Goodison on Saturday. Anthony Martial is wide on the left in these early stages.

"You are going to enjoy the football from Ever Banega tonight. He is not the quickest player I have seen in my life but he is a lovely player on the ball. The question will be will he get enough of the ball in the final third to cause Manchester City problems?"

Bacary Sagna starts at left-back for City but his cross is easily cut out. A fair few empty seats on the far side from the cameras but it's by no means quiet with the away fans in good voice.
