Sion conjured a late winner of their own at home to Rubin Kazan in the other game in Liverpool's group, while Marseille cruised to a 3-0 win at Groningen.
And in the other game in Celtic's group, Fenerbahce slumped to a surprise 3-1 defeat at home to Molde of Norway.
