"Man of the match? Unfortunately I can't give it to the whole team. But it has to be James Poole. A thorn in the Notts County side all night."

Into the last five minutes. Salford midfielder Lewis Hardcastle remains superbly composed for a 17-year-old.

As Jermaine Jenas rightly points out, the League Two side are ending the night with a spell of heavy pressure but they still don't really look like scoring. Famous last words....

"Salford are hanging on a little bit now. They need to somehow get out of this pattern of play because it's only a matter of time before Notts County get a chance and make it count."

Lovely to hear Barry. Glad to hear you've recovered from that fall at the hands of Janine too.

Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes were celebrating like the Nou Camp in 1999 when that one went in. Why did they buy the club? For moments like that I guess.

    Richie Allen

Well that is quite something! 'Help him!' was the shout as substitute Richie Allen is forced away from goal with three men on him. Nothing on. Lay it back to the full-back?

Nope. A Cruyff turn inside, somehow beating all three in one turn. He plays it inside, gets it back and steers in a low shot from 12 yards. The place goes nuts!

Danny Webber gets a huge reception as he comes off with just over 20 minutes left. Has he put Salford into the second round? He is replaced by Richie Allen.

  17. CLOSE!published at 67 mins

    Salford 1-0 Notts County

Just as my colleague said that he couldn't see Notts County scoring, they almost score! Classic.

A comedy of errors too as City defender Steven Howson hits his clearance into the back of County forward Adam Campbell. The ball ricochets past keeper Jay Lynch and is heading in until Howson somehow recovers to clear! Brlliant effort.

Chance! Danny Webber is in again, good pace and movement to get clear but his low shot is easily held. Salford could have put this one to bed.
