Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce: "I could not ask for more in terms of chances created, but we failed to convert any and that makes me wonder what would have happened with Jermain Defoe on the pitch. He could have bagged two or three today.

"I am really disappointed not to have got anything out of the game, but I am really pleased with the performance and the chances that we created against Arsenal on their own patch.

"The system is working well in both attacking and defending point of view. I think we have got goalscorers.Steven Fletcher is a goal-scorer, Duncan Watmore has got a few goals, Fabio Borini...has been out for a bit so I can forgive him his miss."

More from Southampton boss Ronald Koeman: "We played well in the second half, maybe it's a good result. We have had three or four defeats in a row and it is a knockback. You have to believe and we did that.

"It was windy for both teams - but it wasn't Stoke!"

  3. 'It's about scoring goals'published at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2015

    Southampton 1-1 Aston Villa

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman: "Normally you don't sign for one point at home, but it's a point. We make it difficult for ourselves. We had three or four big chances to score and then we concede.

"Straight after half time we had some difficulties but they showed great character to come back and draw the game. We deserved more but OK, it's about scoring goals and creating chances. That was not the the case today.

"Last year we were 4-0 up against Villa [when Saints won 6-1] and we didn't start as well as today! But we didn't score and that is the detail in football. For the first time in maybe two seasons we conceded such a soft goal from a corner."

This was the moment that 11 straight games should have become 12.

But Jamie Vardy fired straight at Lukasz Fabianski and finishes without a goal to his name for the first league match since the 1-1 draw against Tottenham on the 22 August.

He did get an assist though for Riyad Mahrez's third goal.

Chances created blah blah blah. Should have scored blah blah blah. Good possession blah blah blah. Good defence blah blah blah. LVGs usual post match comments simplified for you. He hasn't got a clue. Other fans saying we have no right to complain, you aren't watching the games, you aren't suffering.
